How do you discipline your kids?

I have two kids and I lack the experience and knowledge on how i could discipline my kids...there was even a time that i got to spank my first kid and he really cried a lot and his behaviour got worse... i'm really trying hard to be a good mom... but i need more knowledge on how to discipline them...please help...
