I dont know whether many of you have heard of the Brahmakamal which grows in the Himalayan regions. It is a beautiful flower which blooms in the night. I have heard some nice stories about the Brahmakamal. Legend has it that it is the flower in which the Hindu God, Brahma resides. And that the place where it blooms will be the reciever of glad tidings. People who pray to God while the flower is blooming get their wishes fulfilled. The unique character of this flower is that it grows from the leaf not from the branch. Propogation is also through planting the leaf into the soil. It was a divine experience for me to see the Brahmakamal bloom at my neighbour's home garden last rainy season.

It is a beautiful flower off white in colour and I am not kidding. I have watched it bloom from 10 pm to 12.30 pm. We stayed awake all night to see it bloom, as it fades away in the morning.

Good information on Lotus. Even saraswathi resides in it as per myth. Thank you Lalitha.
