How trendy is the game of golf?

what is the status of golf in your countries nowadays? For a couple of years ago we could a "golf-boom" in Sweden when everybody wanted to play golf, even people who wasnät even the slightest interested in sports whatsoever.. This resulted in expensive membership fees and lots of new golf course projects. This hypa has more of less faded out and some of these new golf courses are having problem to get the economy to add up. I don't know if golf is such a trendy sport anymore, is it? It is not related to status in the society like it was before when only the rich people could afford to play golf. Nevermind trendy or not, I think it is a great game! I will play it whatever people think of it.
