Ever feel like your gonna fail something so bad there is no point in trying???

I get this all the time. Must have something to do with low self esteem or something, which is strange cos if you were to meet me you wouldn't think i was like this at all. I'm not a nervous person or hesitant. I speak boldly and harshly and am very friendly. But..... when it comes to me I just don't have a clue. Just been in an English test and maybe didn't do as badly as I thought I would. Almost didn't go in. So are you like me or are you all shining bright stars???

well..you are absolutely same as me. i do even feel the same thing. sometimes i am so short of confidence that i do not even think of doing some things which i could have done. i am also bold and speak frankly but at some thing i cannot proceed. i do not know why. i think some power stops me from doing things and i can not handle it. so do not worry.. there is always some one like you and so just chill out.

Yes, me too can relate to that, it's reassuring to see that there are other people like me :) I don't know why it happens but I get that feeling a lot and I act this way and people can not believe it's the same person.. OK let's start a club.. lol any more members out there?

I don't think we could start a club. we'd probably get nervous no one would want to join and its just be me and you sittting here thinking we're going fail at everyhting. We'd either talk each other into failing or right out it could go either way!!!!

I'm usually willing to give about anything a try, but since I have gotten older I think, I know my limitations. If it is something that I absolutely know I cannot do (or in some cases want to do), I just pass it up and don't waste my time. If it is something I have to do, I do it! If you asked me to fly an airplane, I would decline. Ask me to take a test, and I would at least try. I don't think it is a self-esteem problem, I think it may be not really wanting to do something. Or maybe not seeing the point in doing something.

Oh I definately see the point in doing these things. Scared though for anyone to view what I am capable of and maybe think that I am stupid. Which I know i am not but when I think someone maybe questioning it I panic.

I think I'm just to the point in my life where I don't really care what other's think. The only people I worry about their opinion of me is my husband, kids, and parents. I'm not really sure that is the best way to be, but that seems to be how I have gotten.

I had that feeling during my College Algebra class. During the entire class I didn't understand a thing and was almost positive I would fail. I almost didn't bother taking the final exam but did and ended up getting a B on it! Go figure?

I've gone into exams, looked at the paper and not seen any question I could answer; so I'm sure I will fail, put my pen on the paper, and an hour later (or 2 hours) found that I had answered most of the questions - I just let my pen do the writing. At the end of the exam couldn't remember anything I had written. I passed most of the exams.

I have a saying, Everything that's hard is worth accomplishing. During my younger days I always dread that I would fail in something if not, everything. It was bad enough that people wanted me to fail but it was worst that I was psyching myself to fail. Now, that I've matured I don't worry that much about failing because I already have rivals, enemies or just envious people to do the worrying for me. For you killahclaire, Are you a strong woman or a woman of strength? This was a poem that I found inspiring.

You are right! There probably is enough people out the wishing formy failure so I shouldn't think about it myself and just put all my energy into doing well!

Always get that feeling whenever i do something... it's that nervous energy that usually drives me through my days (no wonder I am a nervous wreck most of the time haha). It's probably because I am a working musician and have a lot of challenges in my life on a week to week basis. Most of the time you will find you did better because of your nervousness though. It's much better than being to complacent with things and messing it up that way! Trust me.. i've done that a few times (probably why I am so nervous these days hehe). But don't panic!! We are all the same... I hope hehe.

Its funny how so many people can relate to this. It's sometimes not a nice feeling and can make us come down so hard on ourselves. But al least I can say one thing.... When I do achieve it, it feels so amazing after all the self doubt in myself.

when i was in school, i did great all the time until i finished college. i'm scared to fail in any subjects because i don't wnat my parents to feel bad for me. i gave my best and did what i can do just to be great in school. when working, i also try to give my best. honestly, i hate failing. i feel so bad when i feel like i did not do something much. i always try to be positive about everything. if something seems to be wrong, i think about what might go wrong. when i feel like i am failing, i try to figure our what i did wrong to deserve it. and if i still have time, i correct it before failing so hard. it's okey to fail sometimes. it's part of the learning process. the most important part is, how you get up after failing. how you cope up with the stress. and yet, life goes on no matter what.

I always feel like this when it comes to school work. I mean right now I've been putting off this state test I have to take for being a real estate agent. I finished the class in September and I finally got the guts to take the test in Nov. and I failed one section of it. Now, I'm so afraid to take it and I just feel that if I take it I'll probably fail again. I did study for the test but it was just that 1 section that I failed. Oh well, maybe I'll try again after some encouragement. =)

I feel like that once in a while. Normally I will tackle any obstical with full force, I wouldn't let anything stand in my way. However, there are those times, when you just know no matter how hard you try, you will not succed so you don't attempt. Some times you feel like you are facing a brick wall, only way to pass through is if you take the wall down, however, I usually walk around it, and fail.

yep. we all go through a lot of obstacles in life. it's on how we handle things separately and how we manage to get through those obstacles.

Yea on both counts. Ever walk into a room full of people and want to be somewhere else right away? So you retire to a corner and try to be unnoticed.

This might sound strange b ut I tend to work the opposite way. When I dont want to be noticed I put on this big act of being a confident person who's probably got too big an ego but that helps me feel mored safe.

I always try to bounce back. Certain things in the past i've failed and i've managed to do 'em and this can only make you stronger. i haved and never bothered doing it again. for me it just depends what it is and how much i'm willing to try. if i can't do it after a number of trys then i'm probably wasting my time. Kudos. ~Joey

Honey, I'm 59 years old, and I've had that feeling all my life, and it seems to be getting worse as I get older, as when you reach this age, it dosn't seem to matter what you do or dont do, you just become invisible. Well, maybe it's just my menapause speaking, I don't know. But you need to start now by practicing not being attached to whether you fail at something or not. What's important is that you give it your all, and don't depend on the results making you happy or sad. And don't depend on people's reactions to what you've done..all that counts is what you feel about yourself. Now..if I'd just take my own advice.

i do experience the same a lot. I think its normal for anyone to fear the outcome of a certain situation specially when it means a lot to you or your future depends on it. Moreso, if you know you are not prepared to do it. But sometimes, miracles do happen with the help of some prayers, i guess.
6 Feb 07
It does mean alot. this year at college means so much to me as my whole future does depend on it and it is something new to me. I left school 7 years ago. Oh well, wait and see what I get. Finals in a few month.
