Someone explain this to me.......please

So I am like one of the new kids on the block here (ok so I am no kid, but a girl can dream) and I am trying to figure out how this system works. I have noticed that at times there will be a large group of discussion question posed by the same individual so I am wondering if the pay out on starting discussions is more that participating? While I am at how to you resolve a discussion and what does the star with the number mean about some of the names?

hello there new kid on the block :) the only thing you need to do here is enjoy every minute on being here. try to answer discussions with at least 3 to 4 lines. you are payed from creating discussions, answering them, and uploading pictures. you resolve your own created discussion when you choose the best answer or reply. the stars that appear in the names of some users are the ones the has reached post 100 and above. the number in the star indicates level of participation. hope this helps!
