Hi shutterbugs! Post things or stuff you know about photograpghy which you think many of us do not know yet. Share your knowledge! Here's one: photos saved as jpeg lose pixels everytime you view them. so, it's better if you save your photos as raw or tif. there.. how about you? do you have anything to share?

They DO? That doesn't sound right to me, but I'll take your word for it. I have an interest in photography and would appreciate more of these tips if this conversation takes off. I like playing around with photo editing software and would also be interested in tips that make a good photograph (that doesn't have anything to do with adjustment on the camera). Thanks.

I'm also interested in editing photos, but I don't know anything much about it, so it would really be helpful if pros help us out here.

The easiest way to get good photos is to do everything in the camera. Tweaking in photoshop takes much more time than composing a good photo in the camera. A good photographer isn't measured by how much he uses photoshop, but by how little he needs to, imo. So practice getting the exposure correct, and you'll save hours of time and frustration.

I bought some photo editing software called Photo Impact Pro which will do the editing for you. It will auto adjust to improve your pics or you can add objects to your photos, create a "star" image which I previous only got years ago from a special lens... do silly things... distort, add text, etc. There's really TOO much to mention, but there is so much to play around with. More than enough for my skill levell, lol.

jpeg is known as a "lossy" file format. It's compressed, and every time you save the file, it compresses the file again, and you lose data. Personally, I like tiff.

nice i love this topic and all mrcool's response lots of knowledge to digest here. well idont know much about photograpy but im interested i jsut browse the net for any info on how to improve your capturing skills. mrcool is really really right almost all of the tutorial site i visited said that its better to do all in the camera and not in the editing software cause the more you edit the more you lose pixels and the quality is decreased. like the one site said "what is the used of 5million pixels if you will only use 3million.

Interesting, I know they lose pixels every time you save them, due to the fact that they are not a lossless image type like raw of tiff. I really don't think they lose pixels if you are simply viewing them and not saving them...

Most light meters built in to your camera aren't calibrated correctly. There's a test to do with a gray card and a densitometer, i forget what it's called. But to get proper exposure, one must perform the test and then adjust the exposure accordingly. Once I figure out what the procedure is called, I'll post it.

That's a whole lot of procedure just to get the right exposure, eh?
