Satan and the Devil.

I have always thought and known that the Devil and Satan are the same. Some people believe they aren't. Why is this, is there any biblical support to why they could be two different things/people?

the devil and satan or the same person/thing. he was a angel that defied god and was sent out of heaven. i cant remember the book and script but thats what it says in the kjv of the bible. and the catholic version.
