We have had fresh green beans all year long because I went last year and got the biggest and deepest planting pot I could find(at walmart for 10.00) and got potting soil and planted some green beans !! My family was surprised when they actually grew. And if you know anything about green beans - the more you pick the beans off the more will grow. I am going to try some different stuff this year like cherry tomatoes, and some peppers.

Don't forget the basil and gem marigolds. You will have a full pot and lots of goodies to eat. Glad that you used potting soil since the dirt would have been too hard inside the pot. I too know to plant beans and keep them picked and you get plent more beans. Glad to have a gardener as a friend!!

I just have to ask. Do you really eat marigolds?

Thanks for asking!! There are 2 Lemon Gen and TAngerine Gem marigolds that you can eat the petals only. They are added to salads for color. They are a nice addition to your garden! Thanks for responding to me.

Tomatoe - Tomote post, not paste
Now that I am in a apartment, container gardening is the way for me! I will be buying some vegetables to grow also, home grown always taste better. There is this one type of tomato plant that is supposed to do especially well in a container. I even have the plant food too. The only problem I will have is those pesky squirrels .

That's excellent. Can you tell me what type of climate you live in and how you grew them?

We are big time gardeners ourselves but cant raise anything in winter except some herbs. Too cold here and not enough sunlight to raise it indoors. Some fresh half runners sure would taste good right now. It was 12 below 0 last night and not much warmer today. BRRRR

I didn't know the more you pick them, the more green beans grow! Hmm.... I did some container gardening last summer. I bought a huge pot, sealed the drainage holes, filled it with water and grew some water hyacinths. They bloomed and multiplied like crazy! I was something different to do and watch grow.

Hey! That sounds great! I've actually grown potatoes in a large 5 gallon bucket before! LOL I'm a country girl at heart, no matter where I live, so I've had something growing all the time! When I moved into this house, I made extra flower beds around the house, and planted tomato and pepper plants! I use lots of them, so I could go outside in my pjs and get them whenever! A large vegetable garden is hard on my back, at my age, so I do a lot of containers and flower-bed veggies. Lettuce and greens will both go into containers. The real early lettuce, black seeded Simpson, I think, can go into a hanging pot, and if you cut the lettuce off as needed, it will re-grow from the roots, and it stays tender. My next big project is to put homemade flower boxes at my basement door, where there is a retaining wall. That way, I can put the boxes on the wall and not have to bend over to harvest and pull weeds.
