Lately I have been felling really depressed and upset for no reason. Depression runs in my family and i need to know some of symptoms of depression and what not. Also I was wondering if my birth control (Depo) could be causing this depression.

it very well could be, perhaps you could talk to your dr about it.
Have you experienced any anxiety, sadness, unexplained crying etc?
Also talk to your dr about medicines that might can help you. I take lexapro and its a great medicine with no side effects that are bothersome. For anxiety, I would try klonipin- it has no addictive qualities like xananx-and main thing is to try to talk to friends and family who might can help you!

Depression could be a side affect of some birth controls. Call your doctor if you're concerned.

Hormonal birth control often contributes to depression, you should discuss this with a therapist and/or your ob-gyn.
The basic "symptoms" or signs of depression are:
For two weeks ore more you feel multiple of the following:
miserable and sad
exhaustion
don't want to see people
lack of interest in hobbies or activities you usually enjoy
see no future or no point in the future
have difficulty sleeping or sleep much more than usual
difficulty doing the things you must do
decrease in personal hygiene (showering, brushing teeth, cleaning, etc)
hopelessness
unusual cynical outlook on the world
unexplained physical aches or pains
unexplained guilt
If those things sound familiar contact a doctor or a therapist and try to get an appointment, they should be able to help you.
Also, please know that periods of feeling upset and sad are normal and healthy. This is not depression. If you're unsure talk to someone who can help. Good luck!
