Abusive people, how to stop the cycle

Have you ever noticed that people that are abusive to animals, are also capable of being abusive to people? I've talked to my kids about this comparison so they can notice these types of people before it's to late.
I talked to them about girlfriends/boyfriends keeping them away from family members, showing extreme jelousy. They are only 9 & 13 .
I don't want anyone to stay, or get sucked into this type of situation........what have you done to keep your children from this situation?!

ive all ways told my girl she did not ever have to put up with stuff like that . an if she ever was put in that spot to walk away, never go back, no matter what they say or do to make you think its ok to be mean, no no one needs pain hurt in there life, life hard enought with out some one being mean hurtful, or what ever. you can walk away just walk away for i am a person who feels pain

That is so true. So many times it starts with someone trying to help somebody out of a bad situation, and then they get sucked in. I've always told my kids they should never let anyone hurt them physically because they are too important for that.
