What 5 things are you most grateful for in your life?

February 6, 2007 2:33pm CST
We often become so obsessed with the daily routines in our lives that many of us often forget to count our blessings and show appreciation for what we have. So I thought it might be nice to start a thread about the things that we are truly greatful for in our lives. Here are my 5 things: 1. My house - I am so lucky to be in a position where I can afford to take out a mortgage on a house, and I am truly grateful for the events that came together to allow this opportunity to take place. 2. My partner - he really is such a loving, understand and caring person. He is truly selfless and will go out of his way to help anyone. I am blessed to have him. 3. My family - they love me unconditionally and have taught me so much that it is impossible to list everything. They have supported me in achieving my dreams, and never once discouraged me. 4. Being able to live by the sea - the sea is so important to me, I find it very calming and soothing. During the times when I have had to live away from the sea my health has deteriorated, so I feel so lucky to have found my perfect home by the sea. 5. Being free - I know that there are many people in the world who do not have this luxury, some do not have physical freedom, others do not have financial freedom and have to work extremely long hours in a job they hate, just to be able to feed themselves for the day. I am so lucky to have a choice about where I work, what I eat, who I vote for etc. And I think it is so often very easy to forget this. So what are the 5 things that you are most grateful for in your life? Does anyone care to join me in expressing their gratitude?

1. Having my mum still in my life, she is my confidente, she means the world to me, she is always there for me and will do anything for me, she's so caring and will never hear a bad word said about her son. 2. My car, my car is my freedom, my car is my escape, if I didn't have my car I would be trapped and the public transport is not good in my area, it gets me everywhere and anywhere, it is very reliable and I love it to bits. 3. My local gym, going to the gym 5 times a week not only helps my fitness, my body and my mind it has also helped with fighting depression and getting out of the house. 4. My computer, without my computer I wouldn't be able to make friends and discuss on mylot, enter and win competitions, do research as part of my work and it keeps me occupied and my mind active 5. My four cats, they give me so much love, companionship and having them around for company and stroking them releases my stress levels, they are my family, they are my babies.

Thanks for your response wolfie. Your Mum sounds lovely, it's great that you have such a good relationship with her and recognise her worth, I think many people can sometimes forget the value of family members and take them for granted.

Nice ideas. OK - here are mine, in no particular order. 1. My partner. I was married before, it didn't work out, I thought I would never get a chance of happiness again, and he is the best thing that ever happened to me. 19 years on and I still adore him! 2. My health. I am lucky to be in my 40's, and not have any major illnesses (touch wood). 3. My cats - I adore all 5 of them. They make me laugh, and they give me love and loyalty. 4. My home. I love my house, - only a couple more years left now, and the mortgage is completely paid off, and I am grateful to have a nice home with a nice garden. 5. My friends - to Carol, Michelle, and Chrissie, - the 3 best girlfriends a girl oould ever have. they have always been there for me.

There are quite a few things that I am grateful for in my life. It's difficult to just limit it down to five but I had picked out some of the things within my life that I am grateful for that keep me going. But also remind me of how the things we are grateful for in life are a blessing! . . The things I am grateful for are as follows: - I am grateful for my other half & my puppy. I am grateful that I have two people whom I can turn to in time of need. I am thankful that these two are there for me through the good but also the bad times. How they are the two things within my life that I can count on at the end of the day. How the two of them are constant & how they love me despite my faults. I am thankful for my other half because he is the first man whom I've ever had love me despite my faults. These two are my rock... They've stuck by me through it all. Believed in me, they are the two things that are real to me in this world. I am thankful for my puppy because she is so joyful, so full of life. Seeing her run about, all happy, just by looking at her she helps to remind me that life is really about the simple things. That sometimes we just don't take the time to look at. - I am grateful for having a roof over my head & food in my tummy. There are some people out there in this world who are unable to have a roof over there head & food in there stomach at the end of the day. I am thankful that I have these two things as I know there are some out there in this world who don't have half as much as I do. I am blessed that I am not one of the millions out there whose home consists of a car, or an abandoned shelter. - I am thankful that I have been shown each mistake I have made along the way. And how making these mistakes in life has helped me to not to repeat them all over again. I'm also thankful that I can think of them as more of of a learning experiences, then mistakes. I feel each decision you make in life ends up being a learning experience. One that you can grow from. I am glad that I have made these mistakes at the same time in life as they make me who I am as a person to this very day. I wouldn't be who I am if I hadn't made these mistakes. - Being able to have the ability to offer help to a friend as they go through some rough trials in there life. As well as being able to have the ability to help people who are less fortunate by giving. I think there is no feeling that is more rewarding then knowing that you had helped to make a difference in one's life. I am glad that I am able to help others when they are unable to help themselves! - I am grateful that I have the ability to laugh at things in life, but also at myself. I don't think I would have made it as far as I've had if I didn't laugh at myself every once in a while. I as well have realized that the more people I meet these days.. That not just anybody has the ability to make me laugh. That the people who are able to do so hold a special place in my heart! . . In conclusion.. These are some of the things that I find I am most grateful for in life.. I know that by me being grateful for the things around me has helped to give me a new attitude but also perspective on how to approach each & every day. These things in life help to give me something to look forward to. Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

Thanks for your response. Past experiences are definately a good thing to be grateful for, as they shape who we are today, I completely forgot about that one when I compiled my list.

I tend to focus a lot on the things that are going wrong in my life (it's not easy being me!), so thanks for giving this heads-up to think about what I'm thankful for...it's a really positive thing. 1. My partner. He is incredibly supportive, loving, and wonderful. When I need help, he never even stops to think twice. He is my match in every way, and I'm incredibly excited and happy to be with him. 2. My education. I'm the first in my family to go beyond high school, and there have been a lot of little miracles that had to happen to make it possible. Logically, there's no way I should have been able to afford to get this far, but little things keep happening like extra financial aid funds suddenly appearing on my award letters. 3. My home, which happens to be the Overbrook Theatre in Muskegon, MI. I worked there for two years, and even though I had to leave it behind, I think I learned more there about love and life than I have at any other time in my life. It was the one place where I truly belonged, and I'm so happy to have experienced that. 4. Women's rights activism, past, present, and future. I am so glad to have the chance to be who I want to be, to not be confined as much as my female ancestors were, and to be able do my own work to make the world an even better place for my daughters. 5. Finally, I am grateful for my challenges and trials. Most people don't see the sense in being grateful for the things that are hard or painful. But without them, I would not grow. Without them, I would not learn. Without them, I would not be able to encourage others to overcome.

Thanks for your response. I see what you mean, it's definately easy to focus on what's going wrong in our lives rather than on what's going right, it's human nature I suppose - to find faults and then try to fix them. Like you, I also think that challenges are a blessing in disguise, we can learn so much about ourselves from them.

God: I'm just grateful fr all he has given me! My Mom: Without her I'd be a wreck. She's been the best kind of friend to me for so long. I can always talk to her about things without worrying that she will think it is dumb. The rest of my family: My brothers, sister, dad and grandparents are all so important to me. I love them all very much Our home: It's such a nice and pleasant to live in house. I finally have my own room and all that. Movies: May sound silly but Ireally adore watching movies. If I didn't have all these movies to watch i'd be a very bored person lol.
