Designer dogs, what is the world coming to?

Shamefully, dogs (and other animals) are becoming accessory animals. People are giving them fashionable haircuts and buying them designer clothes and 'jewelry'. And why carry your dog in a dag, when (s)he can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the world whilst walking along, not to mention getting a bit of exercise. This rubbish is certainly not in the best interest of the dog!

Those dogs like to be fussed on, and they love being able to be with their owners all day, but little teeny dogs can't walk everywhere on their own, they've gotta be carried! Also, sometimes those cute bags are the only way you can bring them into stores, on busses, etc. and a lot of those spoiled little things really don't like to be left alone.

i totally agree perfect example is when my hubby and i went to salem mass on time off... my pom pom could go any where we could as long as she was in a carrier... and that is somewhere where you do a lot of walking and with all her long hair she gets over worked really easy so she needs to be carried... so we have on of the bags and i think it wpold be cruel to make her walk all around a town just because aq person is too lazy to care for their dog...

First of all while i agree with your concern for the animals i think your concerns may be directed in the wrong areas lets look at the fact that you started your discusion with the term "Designer dogs" which you were refering to what pepole do with their dogs and not the real Designer dog issue. Whic is breeders taking 2 different dog breads and carelessly breading them to get smaller versions of the larger dogs without looking at what affect it will or could have on the offspring. Now i have to say to your discusion that i am offended because i do dress my pomeranian in all the little clothes and such and she loves it and i will not stop doing it just because of this discusion... she is a happy healthy dog and i think that is what is truely important not how i dress or carry my little princess...

I never said it makes dogs unhappy. I have been watching my sister and 'her' dog for two years. She seems to think that an appropriate substitute for a walk is to buy a diamonte 'J' for her collar, and then goes around and tries to tell us that she is being a good owner. The reality is my dad and I feed, walk, bathe and take her to the vet, ALL the time. By designer, I mean in a 'lifestyle' sense. I come from a biochem/genetics background and know the meaning, I just but a different spin on the words. Sorry to have offended you

well yes it did offend me and for the reason that i treat my dog like she is one of my children and to put all dog owners in to the same group as your sister just because we share some of the same aspects in the way that we treat our dogs dose not mean that all the aspects are the same and i hope that you can make the determination between the 2....
