Many couples are waiting until their careers are established and they are financially secure before getting married these days. Advances in medical technology have also made it safer to have children later in life. Unfortuately marriage isn't looked upon as necessary to have children anymore. Though it would be good for taxes-LOL! I think the age is going up.

lol yah marriage does not necc. mean children. I have many pals from Germany, UK and they are in their late 20's and speak of still living at home! This just amazes me I guess because I am 24 and could not imagine still living at home. I have a sister 22 and another 20 who both no longer live at home.

Years ago there were no other options for females but to get married and have children.By the time you were 20,you were already an old maid. Now people realize there are (almost) no limits to what a person can do as long as they work long and hard at it.For this reason, more girls are delaying getting married until much later in life.Plus with the record number of divorces, the odds of a successful marriage is low . Many are not ready to settle down in their 20's or 30's as more options become available to them(men and women alike).

I think because woman have more rights now than what they did 50 years ago, marriage has changed!

My grandmother also got married at 14. :D In the U.S., I think the average age for marriage is between 24-26. I guess the reason that people have been waiting to get married is the rise of the woman in the workforce. Women have been getting high paying jobs and starting careers, and I think that they want to wait until they are established before they get married. Marriage usually leads to children, and a lot of people think that children end careers for women. :S

i agree. i think more women are going to college and getting careers befoe marriage. it just amazes me to think that by my age-24- my grandmother had 4 kids and had already lost 1 and lost 1 husband! Do you think women were stronger then- meaning the 30's.40's? Stronger mentally?
