At what age do you begin training your dog?

My understanding is that you can start training them right from when you get them. I have always been told that you can start doing it when they are between 6 and 12 weeks, so I think you are ok.

Yeah, I am pretty sure that is about the right age. The younger the better, just like children in a sense!

My dog was about 9 months old when we got him. He was mostly housebroken and sort of crate-trained by the rescue group that we adopted him from; other than that, he didn't know a thing. We started training right away, of course, and he caught on really quick. I don't think the delay in starting hurt him at all, since we were always consistant with our training once he came to live with us.

I agree, I think that consistency is the key when training animals, no matter how old they are. I am not one to believe that old dogs can't learn new tricks. I think that with love, discipline and consistency a dog can learn about anything.

Good for you! Housetraining is half of the battle when you have a new puppy! Thanks for your response.
