ideally, credit cards are great whenever there are promos like zero interest installment package when buying appliances, furnitures or any gadgets :) i do have one credit card, it helps whenever you need urgent cash eg. emergency, hotel guarantee (i find this discreminatory though). however, it really is not wise to spend money you never have in the first place. the key is discipline, never use your card for small everyday stuffs and before you know it, bills pile up :)

I have 4 credit cards and today I just got another 1 sent to me (I didn't ask for it, they just sent it to me. I haven't activated it yet.) The key to proper credit card usage is CONTROL. I am not an impulse buyer, so I have never really incurred shopping debts. I pay IN FULL on or before the due date, so I don't incur late or finance charges. I don't buy what I wouldn't be able to pay in cash. So why do I use my credit cards if I can pay in cash? 1. Money in the bank earns more interest the longer it's there. If I buy something with a credit card, the money stays in the bank longer and earns a little bit more interest. 2. I get REWARDS for using my credit card. It's either in the form of rebates (for my gasoline card), or reward items. Some people also accumulate free miles. 3. When there are offers of installment plans with 0% interest, I get to spread out my big purchases over a number of months. I try to keep to a budget, meaning I don't spend for more than 2 installments at the same time. 4. Like what is mentioned, it is very handy in emergencies. Like when we had to bring somebody to the hospital. In such cases, it also saves me from carrying around a big amount of cash. 5. I can do international online purchases. Very rarely though :D I think the disadvantages are primarily due to impulse buying, racking up a huge amount and inability to pay the full amount on time. If you pay just the minimum amount, the interest rates would literally bury you in debt! For me, my credit cards serve me well. I don't have problems with it. :)

i used to have 5-6 credit cards. all were pre-approved (i didn't apply for them). there came a point when they became a burden for me so i decided to cut them all off. i just retained 1 card for emergency purposes.

I have 2 credit cards in the past and had decided to pay it in full and cut it off...I'm losing my control when it comes to shopping, It's like money is always available with one swipe of a card..it's already an old saying that you just use your credit card "for emergency purposes" only"..that as what i as saying also but everytime I see Midnight Sale on the Mall, I always felt that, that is some kinda emergency (LOL)

the only advantage i can see is the "zero interest" installment plan (if that's really zero huh?) because you can purchase and divide the amount into twelve months which can be a lot easier than paying the whole amount.I have 2 credit cards but i wanted to get rid of the other one now, am still apying off, my goal is to closed that at the end of this year but will still keep the other 1 active..for emergency purposes.

we have a couple of credit cards, but my husband and i make sure to pay more than the minimum amount stated in our bill. when i was single, i did not have a credit card because i don't like the idea of me owing people any money. but here in oz, it's a common thing to have one. it's just a matter of discipline in using it.

I have a couple of credit cards. I am trying not to use them at all - I am still paying them off, so I don't want to add to the amount I have to pay off. They are, I think, too convenient and easy to use.

For me credit cards are more of a disadvantage than an advantage. I have credit cards andI have to admit that having these gives you a lot of courage to purchase things that you really need. It's a bad thing if you are the kind of person who is an impulsive buyer. It takes a lot of will power to avoid buying things specially when you se the "ON SALE 50% " sign ;). But for me I'm now going to close all my credit cards and live a loan free life from now on.

I do. I have 4 active credit cards. I want to pay more than the minimum but I can't. I guess I need to find a second income so I can make more than the minimum payment.

I have 1 type of credit card which I only use for emergency purposes. the advantages here is that you only have to pay one annual fee charge rather than three since you stated you have three crdit cards. The disadvanatges, if you don't use your credit card wisely, you'll only end up in debt.
