Do we really need to send our children to school?

For several months now, my husband and I have been seriously thinking about sending our 4-year old son to school. On our own, we were able to teach him to speak in English (and not just plain English but with an American accent). When people hear him speak, they always assume that he's just vacationing from the U.S. or that he grew up there. At 4, his vocabulary is extensive and can even rival that of those in elementary school. He knows the alphabet, numbers and colors. And although he may be lagging behind in terms of writing and reading, his skills now place him in the level of children who 've been attending school for a couple of years already. I know that his social skills will be developed more if he were to attend formal school but there are alternatives to this should we decide to homeschool him, right? What are your thoughts on homeschooling? Have you tried it? Is it working for you? How did you go about it?

hi! i would really have to agree on the socialization that your baby would need, especially in his growing years. surely, he will learn a lot from you, but there are things that he would learn too from other people. things that he would need as he goes "out of the real world"... well, he can go to the best school, and still you can teach him when he gets home. with that,i bet, he would be way ahead of his class. congrats and god luck =)

I agree that the socialization aspect of schooling is extremely important. I thought about homeschooling my two children, but I also want to make sure that they are learning everything that they are supposed to, and I just don't know if I would be able to teach them things like math and science because I am not very good at those subjects myself.
I could teach them reading and writing all day long though! :)
