guilty as the non-believers. How often do you hear church members saying "Jesus Christ!!" said for no reason at all other than mere expressions of surprise, sadness after hearing bad news or grief. Are the words "God willing" sometimes overused? How can one take the name of God in vain?

It always makes me chuckle when I see someone who uses some other made up phrase instead... If you are avoiding saying the lord's name in vain or damning someone/something, don't you think that god know's what you mean when you say "gosh darn it" or whatever other nonsense you say instead? I don't know that people say "God willing" in vain, but I guess some might...

Yes, I know of some who says "God willing" as a way of saying "I am not going to do it but who knows", more of an excuse or something rather than seeking the Lord's will. You reminded of my friend who always uses the word "Gee!"

i admit most of us often do that. I mean taking the name of God in vain. It would be hard to find reasons for that except for the fact that for most of us it is already a way of life, like swearing and whining..At the end of the day though, it's your faith in Him that really matters.

I agree. If you use the Lords name any time you are expressing yourself I feel like you are using it in vain.
