I live in Orlando, FL. The news coverage on the tornado damage and the victims is horrible and depressing. I quit watching the news long ago, but when the tornado hit, I watched the coverage. They also show the other stuff like people taking advantage of the victims, and the murders, now there is an astronaut in trouble. I turned the channel. I was getting depressed watching it, and turned it to a sitcom so i could laugh. The news coverage was getting worse by the minute and I was getting sick of it.

I know that if the local news is bad, the national news will be worse. My local news station does a very good job of reporting the good with the bad though.
To get away from the negativity, I like to look for odd or unusual news. Several news site have specified sections just for odd news. I like to see those sections as often as possible.

I think there seems to be so much bad news because the 24-hour news channels have to fill up all that air time. I try to watch enough to know what's going on in the world but I don't obsess on it. The world is full of sick, depraved people, unfairness, and crime, but there's a lot of good going on too if we take the time to look for it.

I also noticed it that most of the news now are so negative but sometimes it is good for us to be aware and prevent those negative things to happened to us.

Yes it's frustrating to see/read bad news all of the time, I don't watch news on TV anymore, I read the newspaper and try to skip what i don't like to read in details; but at times you just need to know what's going on; either it's good or bad.. It's just very frustrating when there's absolutely nothing that we can do about it but to set and watch :(

I never was raised with the daily newspaper, so I find the concept of reading about r.ape, murder, and mayhem every morning totally foreign. I choose to put better things in my brain.
We also didn't listen to the radio much, except classical music and things that were uplifting. While it is true that this, combined with living in a small town, has led to me not having enough knowledge about the world compared to others, I do very much agree with you on the negativity part.
In fact, I think publicizing negative things makes negative people want to do more bad things so they can get attention. How many times do we hear of all the good in the world?

I try not to watch the news too much anymore as it is usually very bad news. It is rare that they talk about anything good these days. It is filled with mostly tragedies, the war in Iraq, natural disasters or other bad things. We need a news station that only shows good or positive things that are happening in life.

I watch both the National news and the local news every night. It is the only way I know what is going on in the world. Even then I am still out of it. You may notice I don't comment on political discussions. LOL!
Yes, there is a lot of bad news. That's their job, to tell us the news. But I see good news too. Our National News ends with a success story every night. Sometimes it's a little kid who decided to collect toys for poor kids or something like that. Kids making jewelery and selling for cancer. Stories that actually bring a tear to my eye.
And although falling off a subway platform when having a seizure is bad news, the guy that saved him made good news. Ah, isn't there always a silver lining?
