Why People Engaged Plastic Surgery?

I think it has reached a point where people are all trying to look alike, and I think that's sad. What ever happened to individuality? And it isn't just the rich and famous who are doing it. I am a middle class, thirty-something woman, and can't believe how many of my friends and aquaintances have had at least one procedure of some sort, many more. Plastic surgery can do miraculous things in the area of reconstructive surgery, so I think plastic surgeons often get a bad reputation when they are making huge differences in people with cleft palattes, burn victims, etc. I can even understand why people would want to fix certain things that have always bugged them. But the epidemic of it becoming "the thing to do" is kind of scary, risking your life and spending that kind of money in an attempt at perfection. I wish people would spend that kind of effort and money on improving their minds and spirits!

They are not satisfied with their looks, maybe! I don't want to offend anyone who are engaged to plastic surgeries, but i still believe to natural beauty.

Hi! Welcome to myLot! To answer your question, I believe plastic surgery is very popular these days because actresses (especially) are very influential and many tend to idolize and/or imitate them. Another is the fear of getting old and wrinkled. A lot of people are doing it too because it's the fad or the "in" thing to do. Others do it because of peer pressure. It also boosts one's confidence because looking good makes them feel better about themselves. They also become better at their jobs and become better wives (because they become more confident that the husbands wouldn't leave them). Lastly, this is a competitive world, so sometimes if women don't have the brains, they try to bash it out with their looks! So, there are many reasons why women (especially) engage in plastic surgery; but I agree with you, nothing beats the original (which is natural beauty).
