I was in my final year BSc when this incident happened.
It was a Sunday morning. We had just completed our breakfast when the door bell rang. I opened the door to find three sadhus on the door. They were talking in Tamil and I understood that they were asking for dakshina (alms).
My mother believed that all sadhus were holy and have to be welcomed. My dad on the other hand felt that all sadhus were cheats and were only interested in living without doing any work. I, however, was not bothered.
As was customary, my mother welcomed them and offered some rice and cash. They started chanting some mantras and then started conversing with my mother in Tamil. She informed them that our mother tongue was Malayalam and hence could not understand everything that the sadhus said.
The leader of the group now asked her if we were Brahmins. My mother told him that we were Nair's and not Brahmins. At this the leader said that they took alms only from Brahmins and since they had already taken alms from her, they had to give something back in return.
The leader now looked at my dad and said that he would be promoted. He then looked at me and said you will do well in your exams. Saying this they took our leave.
Once they left, my dad burst out in laughing. He had been promoted on Friday and there was no chance of a promotion for the next 2 years. He started teasing my mom saying her sadhus were 48 hours late.
On Monday when my dad returned from office he had shock written all over his face. He had been promoted once again. The promotion had catapulted him to the management grade thereby increasing the salary and adding a lot of perks. This was in spite of the fact that he had already been prompted a week earlier.
A month later my results were equally good.
After this incident my dad never teased my mom when she happily gave alms to everyone who came to our door steps.
This is a true incident. I am putting it on record to show that some sadhus have powers because of their sadhana. What ever they say can come true. I am sure there are a lot of such incident happening everyday in India.
You can also find a lot of cheats roaming around a sadhus.

It is really amazing to learn your experience with Sadhus. You will like the FREE online book called "Smruthi", which is real story of a Bank Manager. It is available at yogashram.in
