Are cd save and secure

How long data on the cd can be preseved. It is true that the quality of the cd degrades as the time passes. I have more than 500 cds, which contains the backup of family photos, songs etc. Is there any other secure way to preserve the data.

A cd can store a data upto 700 - 750mb.If u use good quality cd and maintain them or keep them properly by taking care nothing will happen to ur collection on the cds.But I prefer u to store the data on dvd's.They can store upto 4.7 GB and the quality also is gud.Both cd's and dvd's are good and u can use them or u can save ur data on an external hard disc connecting it to an usb port.That is the beat method to preseve ur data.
