This is like the biggest news that's coming on now...
A astronaut who was charged with trying to murder the woman she believed was her romantic rival for a space shuttle pilot's affections...
She was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted kidnapping and three other crimes Tuesday, all stemming from what the police described as a love triangle involving a fellow astronaut. They based this murder charge on this other woman Colleen Shipmen, by what they found...Pepper spray, a BB-gun, and a new steel mallet, knife, garbage bags and rubber tubing...How sick is that?
Lisa Nowak flown on the shuttle Discovery, and is a mother of three children; a teenager and 5 year old twin girls. It's also said that her and husband separated a few weeks ago after 19 years of marriage...
They also said that Lisa Nowak, drove from Texas to Florida to Florida wearing a "diaper" so she didn't have to make bathroom stops as she raced to confront Shipman...
Shipman said the man who was involved with this is a 41year old man who trained with Lisa. Lisa says Oefelein and her had something "more than a working relationship but less than a romantic relationship"...
It's still unclear what Oefelein (the male astronaut) and Shipman shared... Shipman even
I been seeing this on the news and I have to think; why? What would make anyone who already is in the limelight for something they have did very positive, to even risk putting yourself in a situation such as this...
The media blows up when negative things happen to people in the limelight. I can only imagine how her children, her family, and friends feel, how embarrassing and sad it has to be for them.
If you heard or seen this story on the news or the paper, what are your thoughts about this? Is this another case of fatal attraction? Please share your thoughts...

Yes I've seen it on the news. They had it on last night and again this morning. On the morning news they talked to a therapist that says we are seeing more and more of this. She said that this astronaunt was tested psycological before she went into space so they know she wasn't crazy.
Trying to say that love is really powerful and men and woman would do anything for it. I don't agree with that. I wouldn't hunt down another woman if I thought the man I loved was with her. I think that she just snapped and didn't think of the consequences that would happen. I wonder if she even thought about her children when she was doing this.
She needs help but she also needs to go to jail for it.

I agree, the sad thing is the male astronaut and her live in the same state, but the other woman lives in Florida...How you going to separate from your husband just a few weeks ago...Maybe that had something to do with it..I have no ideal. I do know that she has really disappointed ALOT of people, mainly her children.
They also said this other woman said she was stalking her for about 2 months already...
I agree, anybody that attempt to cause harm to someone else should serve time. How weak can one be to go through the depths of traveling across quite a few states with a diaper on, to confront another woman, where it's still not concrete that the other woman and this man had a relationship...

Everyone seems so shocked by this, but remember folks, love and jealousy can make a person do some stupid and crazy things.

This is so sad, but it illustrates how no matter what a person does in Life, They can become still become involved in the most insane instances of behavior.
This story goes along with the one about the woman who sabotaged her rival's parachute and killed her... I believe it happened in Belgium, the other day.

Man that's crazy....I tell you there is no man that would make me go crazy or do something so violent to even think about doing something to someone else...
The ironic part to this story is she just recently separated, but been stalking this lady in Florida for about 2 months now....crazy huh?

I really feel sorry for Lisa Nowak. She is such a hard working person. What she achieved in her lifetime is very impressive.
I believe she just snapped. I don't like giving people who commit crimes a pass, but in this case I would reduce the charges and get her the help she needs.
And her husband should stand by her side in her moment of distress. It's not the time for him to turn his back on her.
Just my opinion.

I respect your opinion....However, you said her husband should stand by her side after she ran after another woman about another man. So much is still unclear about why they separated, but how you think her husband feel knowing her love was elsewhere and not with him. In a perfect world, I could see her husband standing by her side, however, realistically, I can't blame the husband if he didn't...
Thank you kindly for responding...

I kept hearing bits and pieces of this story on the television yesterday while I was typing on the computer, but I hadn't read more of the full deal until you posted it. I did hear the part about how she raced to the scene wearing a form of diapers so she wouldn't have to stop. Boy, was she ever crazy to keep this guy she thought she had something romantic going on with :( I guess that people will do anything for love, or what they perceive could be love, but this story sure is sad. And like you, I feel sad for her children and the rest of her family, as well. It is sad that she was in the press for something so positive, and now.... look where she is.

Very much so...I'm telling you she has made all the news channels even CNN...YOu know it's serious when you make it there...lol
All her dreams, hopes, accomplishments, her marriage all gone down the drain for a man who she just "trained" with...
I plan to follow the outcome of this story, I mean alone someone who will put on a diaper just so you didn't have to make bathroom stops is way beyond the normal...lol

I am so baffled about this whole deal ...I want to know why her and her husband of 19 years seperated ...who had custody of their kids ... thats the ones I care about ... the woman obviously has just "went temporairaly" insane to lose everything she had for a man ...I would never jepordize my kids for any man ...I hope the kids come out of this mess ok ...

Yes I agree, I hope so as well...My thing is I believe there was really no "affair" with this man astronaut...I hadn't heard of anything thus far about it. I wonder was it just some fatal attraction type deal...Either way, it's scary and what would make someone just do something as crazy as this lady...man this story blew me away...lol

yes it is more or less a case of fatal attraction,i guess.it is so sad that love had to be trivialised like this.love is indeed a powerful emotion,it can make us do a whole lot of things that we normally would not!
love in this case instead of bringing up two people close together has now separated them.whats more it has made on of those persons[lisa] behave like this.
she is an astronaut for god's sake.the public in general expect a lot more from its astronauts than a case of "fatal attraction".
no matter how strong the "love" or "attraction" was she should have remembered that first of all she was a mother of three and that she was an astronaut, serving her country so as to speak.
she should have thought about her three children and fought hard against this attraction.now it is all too late.maybe they may go lenient on her coinsidering her situation.but i also think that they should interogate the man in question.there have been many, many cases of women killing other women on the behest of the husbands.
so who is to say that the man the other astronaut did nt arrange the whole thing as a convinient way of ridding himself of his wife??
i guess theres more to this than lisa is letting on and we may only know the whole truth when we question the guys concerned!

You most welcome, the latest I have heard is NASA is freezing computer records that may track the relationships between some key players in this triangle that has her under arrest...
They are now saying whatever is in the emails and records that were exchanged between the three members of this love triangle may become public knowledge...WOW...
She is now getting support from the husband of an astronaut who was killed in 2003 Columbia distater...His wife Laurel Clark was killed...
So far this is all I know that is new :)~
To be continued.....

I know love can make people do crazy things, but come on. I mean, she went after this other woman over another man. I would be very ticked off if my man was seeing another woman and never told me, but to me, no guy is worth going crazy over, to me, except my own father. There more than likely may be a lot of issues going on with this lady, but what she did was wrong. She had basically destroyed her career. Most importantly, her poor kids ~ I feel so sorry for them. They will be the ones hurt the most out of this. To me, she does not deserve to have her kids. She really needs a lot of psychological help for sure!

no matter how totally bizarre this sound to all of us - and yes it is totally bizarre - i can;t help but think that this woman is clearly in trouble and possibly behaving totally out of character. who knows what stresses and breakdowns, events whatever may be going on in her life and she has just totally snapped. no, i don't think it is a good thing and of course she should be punished but there has to be more behind it that we don't know and she probably needs help

You really believe she drove to Florida because she wanted to own this man? or because she was infatuated with this man?

My husband and I both read it a few days ago. We were both quite shocked, especially since she was married with children. And to add onto that, she said she was just trying to scare the woman. But who would wear a wig, and bring a weapon, and travel all the way across the state wearing a diaper just to scare someone. I think she had a certain intention, and I don't think she intended to get caught. Her picture is quite scary actually, and I think her mental state was quite lost while trying to rescue her love. Which obviously wasn't there to begin with.

So very true...Scare? How could one even think they would not get caught? It's such a sad story all the way around...
To top it off, how could a parent with children not think about the impact and the possibilities they have to face...
Furthermore, Look what kind of reputation she put on NASA. I know there are society, generally speaking, wonder the routine to how NASA pick people to go in space or to be aboard such a top notch position...
She involved alot of people in this situation as well as NASA credibility when hiring people and their mental state. I bet NASA will be changing some procedures moving forward because of what she did...

What you have on here is the most I have seen. I didn't read it in the paper or watch it on the news. But something is very wrong with a women that puts on a daiper so she doesn't make any stops. As far as just leaving her husband they might of just broke up but have not been good for a while.

That's true the marriage probably was on edge as it was...Yeah it is a bit much to put on a diaper...lol..I mean was it THAT serious? From what I have been hearing it's still unclear what she and this guy shared other than training...Who knows..I guess more will come out as they dig into these people personal lives..Makes you wonder someone who is recognized in the media, should know if you make one false move, it's very possible your name will be in every paper, all over the tv, and all over the net...
Was it that severe she didn't care?...just sad...

what love can do. it's sad that someone successful as she is committed that crime. looking at the pictures you posted here, the difference between those two pics. that's why it's important for us to think and love not just love and love. perhaps, that's the reason why god put our brains up above the heart. because if she gave it a lot of thought, intelligently, being an intelligent woman that she is, she wouldn't have done what she did.

Exactly....I mean ok she snapped, why not talk to someone...instead run to possibly kill "another man woman"...Love or no love, they only trained together....

It sounds like this women has serious mental issues. Which makes we question how someone like this was even in the space program to begin. Don't they have some testing before they let people in. She just sounds so unstable to me. At least she didn't kill the other woman.

Yes, I'm glad she didn't either....Yes they have tests and said she was fine....I guess in between the flight to space up until now, her marriage, and this guy, I'm thinking she was heavily infatuated with...Something went wrong...There's so many things they could be possible, but no one probably will never know what really was going on in her head...

I've seen mentions of this but wasn't sure what it was about. I think she needs help. This is clearly not rational behaviour.
How very scary for everyone involved. And how awful for her children and for the woman who was the victim.

Yes indeed. I just don't understand how a woman can have a family a home, become separated and rush to attempt murder on a guy she "trained" with...It's too much...I do feel really bad for the children and the victim...thank you for responding
