I purchased a banana plant, last season and while it was young, I kept it in a container. Also since it was close to winter weather, (it's about 4 feet high) I brought it in the house and put it down the basement. When would be a good time to transplant it outside? It's sitting on the porch during the warmer days. How much sunlight should the get and what about soil needs? If anyone has some experience with banana plant please, let me know? Thanks

How I wish I could give you some little tips on this. Yeah, we grow lots of bananas at home, but the thing is, we're here in the Philippines and there's no issue on good or bad weather for planting bananas outside, coz we just directly plant it on the ground. Am sorry. :(

Thanks for your response. It would be nice to have warm weather year round. I live in southeast part of the U.S. and sometimes during the winter months it dips down to the 20's now it's getting warmer in the 60's.

in tropical countries december is the best month for plantation, lime, potash and phosphate should be added to the soil prior to planting, plants should not be planted either too shallow or too deep, a 10 cm space should be there between the plant and the soil surface, irrigate bananas after planting, after which LAN top dressing can be given at an interval of one month after planting, do not top dress during june, july and august. old leaves, kitchen waste can be used as fertiliser
