How to stop my friend from drinking.

One of my close friends is a regular drinker and he drinks a lot,previously he used to drink occasionally.Now his intake of alcohol is increasing day-by-day.I have counselled him a lot and he stopped taking drinks for some days and started again taking alcohol and when I have asked him why have you started again, the reason given by him is that he is getting shivering if he is not taking alcohol.Lot of people say as far as alcoholic patient is concerned shivering is the stage where if you won't control the health starts deteriorating.Could anybody there who can help me in giving some good advice to make my friend from stop drinking.In what way my approach should be to stop my friend from drinking.
