Sid Meier's Civilization series...I'm a fan. Are you?

Since 1992, I've been a fan of Sid Meier's Civilization series, a so-called "god game" where you start a civilization from the humblest of beginnings, then slowly but surely get it to expand into a mighty empire by gaining Civilization Advances and trading/warring with other civilizations.
Usually depicting some 6,000 years of world history, the Civ games teach players how to balance various aspects of ruling an empire while still providing many hours' worth of addictive and fun game play.
Currently, I don't have any of the Civ games installed on my PC but I recently bought Civ IV on eBay. That got me thinking: Are there any other myLot members who play Civilization? Which version do you own? Are you addicted?

I haven't really played any of them, so I can't say that I am a fan or an addict. From what I have heard though, they are quite interesting games that I should try out sometime.

You really should at least try getting Civ IV. It really can get addictive, so be prepared to love the Save Game option to avoid getting your wife mad at you!

I dunno. I find Civ IV to be quite difficult at times, particularly in the Earth scenarios.

No, I've never even heard of it, but it sounds like a very cool game. I may try to see if I can find it and start playing it. I'll report back to you if I do. I love those kinds of games. I just don't have a lot of time to play anymore.

The nice thing about Civilization is that it's turn-based and you can save/load game sessions. Makes the game easy to manage, time-wise.

I've not received my copy of Civ just yet. It does look a bit more elaborate and graphics heavy.
Do you have a favorite facet of the games? Which version do you prefer?
