Does anyone here write their own patterns?

I've crocheted for many years and now I just do small projects, such as doll clothes and baby sets. I needed an outfit for a 15" doll and, as I was working on it, got the idea that I might need this again in the future. It seemed like a good idea to write it and keep for reference, just in case. However, this seems like a bigger job than what I thought and is really slowing me up. Is there anyone here that would have some tips to speed things up?

I've come up with several of my own patterns but haven't written them down. How do you write your directions? Do you write it down after you complete each row? Not quite sure how you can speed up the process other than using abbreviations where you can. Maybe you can (voice) record your pattern as you crochet and then go back and write it out after the project is complete?

What about graph paper? That'd be easier to note each stitch, rather than write it out by hand. Just another thought for you. :)

I stop and write down each stitch I do it, as I find it's too easy to miss something. I've been trying to write it in abbreviations like most other patterns I've done, but it's really slow. I thought of recording and then transcribing, and maybe I'll do that with my next one. I'm just not quite set up for that, as this was a spur of the moment idea.

I could try this idea; I'm not sure how it would work, but definitely worth a try. I just have two more pieces to write down, the booties and the headband.

I saw your cute puppy, but now don't remember where it was, lol. I think I've found how to upload a photo, but I have to finish this project before I put on a photo.

I buy graph paper and draw the item on it, then I don't need to write anything. If you have a scanner that you can scan a picture of it you could do that i suppose. I count each square on the graph paper as a stitch, or two stitches, or three depending on the size of the item compared to the size of the graph. Follow?

I'm not sure if I follow, but when I get this one done, I'm going to try the graph paper. One sc. would be one square? two squares would be a dc? Is this what you mean?

I wish that would work, but you have to know how many stitches and which ones were used to come up with the finished project. As I sell on E-bay and Blujay, I will be getting a copyright and selling them. I already have another one in mind to do, if I ever get this one done. If I can figure out how to put a picture of the set in here, I'll do that when I get it finished.

i have made one pattern before. it's a doggie bone toy i made for my dog. it's just a small one. i'm writing the pattern step by step while crocheting the actual piece. so i've tried it.
