My contract with Cingular will be expiring soon, and I am considering alternate providers... In your experience which provider has the best service and cost effective family plan in northern NJ?

I've been a customer of Verizon Wireless, and part of a family plan, for the past 8 years in Northern NJ. Verizon has, by far in my opinion, the best coverage area for the tri-state area. I've always had service when friends subscribing to other services have not. As far as cost goes, I'm pretty sure that Verizon's rates are comparable to other companies, however I've been so satisfied with my service and plans that I haven't looked into switching. Hope that helps a little!

verison's been pretty good by me too in the NY NJ area. comparable in price and all that. the phones they give you with new contracts do look like they suck though. might want to look into that. the razor is supposed to have horrible battery life and the chocolate is tough to get used to with a weird keypad.

Yeah I've heard the same thing about the razor having bad battery life. I actually have the chocolate and the touch screen is definitely annoying. I wouldn't recommend getting the chocolate unless you are planning to download music to it. Otherwise, I've found the camera tough to use (especially trying to take pictures without looking at the screen b/c of the touch screen you cannot tell when the picture has been taken) and the touch screen also makes it more difficult to send text messages b/c a lot of messages get sent by mistake- you touch a button instead of actually pressing it and your half composed text is off to its destination- very annoying!
