Did you know that the top five most popular baby names in England and Wales for 2006 are:
1 Jack
2 Thomas
3 Joshua
4 Oliver
5 Harry
And the top five popular baby names for girls are
1 Olivia
2 Grace
3 Jessica
4 Ruby
5 Emily
Are you surprised, names like Grace and Ruby are to me really antiquated names and it seems like they are coming back. What do you think of the top 5 names, do you know the top five names of babies from your country?

I am depressed now because my name did not make the list. I will have to research my Country's top 5 list and see if I make that one. I think the older names are coming back and I hope that Children will not get a hard time because of that. I cannot have Children but I think to have one would be special and to pick out a name for a child even more special. Looking at the list for your Country I would like 1.) Grace 2.) Ruby 3.) Emily 4.) Olivia and 5.) Jessica I really like the name Grace.

As I said in the previous response my name is old fashioned it seems. I too cannot have children, but I do work with children which is the next best thing, plus I can hand them back at the end of the day. There were some really unsual names I came across
Jayden (boys name)
Sydney (girls name!)
Cameron (boys name)
Kasey (boys name, unusal spelling too)

I really think most of those names are antiquated. I can understand why Harry is so popular (Harry Potter). I do like the names Olivia (Law and Order SVU), Grace and Emily. I've actually thought about naming my daughter (when/if I have one) Grace - but it's not at the top of my list (it's somewhere behind Arrianna, Aja, and Melia).
I just looked at a site -
http://www.babycenter.com/general/babynaming/pregnancy/1506831.html and it says the top five girls names in the US for 2006 are
1 Emma
2 Madison
3 Ava
4 Emily
5 Isabella
and for boys
1 Aiden
2 Jacob
3 Ethan
4 Ryan
5 Matthew
I really like Isabella but my friend named her daughter that. Aiden is also nice for a boy. Joshua is number 9 on our list. Olivia is #8. Actually if you look at the list there are a large amount of antiquated names.

These are the official ones?
I picked jake from off the name list with my wife could be 05's. although we did already have it on our short list, personally i wanted it to be adam but my wife often gets her own way and for this time it was for the best.
He looks like a jake. i did often think that he looked more like a adam at the start but it's nice to have a little bugger you can call jakey. =)
Kudos for sharing the list woofie. so your a good wolf i see =)

I think the top five most popular baby names in England and Wales for 2006 depends on which list you look at:
1 Jack Sophie
2 Lewis Emma
3 Callum Erin
4 Ryan Katie
5 James Lucy
-------------------------------
1 Aiden Emma
2 Jacob Kaitlyn
3 Ethan Emily
4 Ryan Isabella
5 Matthew Ava
Baby names are very important and people should think long and hard over them before nameing a baby as the child has to live with its name for the rest of its life..
Personly I do like the old names, My Girls were named Susan, Carol and Anne.

In the US the top 5 from 2006 are:
1. Emily
2. Emma
3. Madison
4. Abigal
5. Olivia
1. Jacob
2. Micael
3. Joshua
4. Mathew
5. Ethan
I got this from a bany names site, forgot to write down the site, sorry. I like the old fashioned names. They seem more solid and down to earth. Not a fan of names like moonbeam or rainbow, I guess I would have not been popular in the 1960's LOL.

When I have my girl I want to name her Magdelina Annie. It's my great-grandma's name. I like the name Micheal Joseph for a boy.

A great place to find all this information is at http://www.name-stats.com. I had a hard time finding a name and I wanted one that was popular but not a fad type of name.
Really good site with TONS of names (they have last names too). They also have names from all over the world not just the United States.

Someone else already said the top names from here in the US. But I did want to respond to your other question about the names seeming antiquated and coming back.
My niece has the middle name Grace. When they named her that, it was just coming back into popularity. Her first name is Mackenzie and she also got in on the first wave of that name coming into popularity. Back in the late 90's. Now it seems like you hear them both everywhere.
I'm 24 and I've never met anyone close to my age with the name Grace. I always thought it was for older people, too. Until recently, and now you see little girls everywhere with that name!

I like those names. I wouldn't name my kids those names though. They are just to common. I meet a Josh everywhere I go, same with jessica.

I don't think I would name any pets or children any of those names .. but they are much better than being called .. ~~~~
hmmm hang on .. maybe someone with this name will pop into MyLot at some stage ..
Thinks again .. they are better than some of those 'weirder' names that pop stars name their poor offspring .. like naming your child after a bridge for instance .. like .. maybe 'Humber' (bridge) .. or after a pub where the poor mite was conceived .. 'Donkey on Fire' .. in Ramsgate ..
