Crazy Iggy!

My iguana is going nuts and I don't know why. He kees ramming into the side of his cage. It seems like he is trying to get out. I don't want him to get hurt. Anyone have any ideas why he's doing this and anyway to get him to stop before he gets hurt?

Could he be hungry? This may sound strange but try putting some warm water in a spray bottle and spray him. My iguana loved to be sprayed. I read somewhere that you should do that anyway. It puts moisture in their air and they are used to warm tropical environments. How old is he and how long have you had him? Mine used to ram his head into the side of the cage but that was because he was trying to get my cat.

He's over three years old but we've only had him since saturday. He shouldn't be hungry, he ate his food today. His cage is too small but that is what he's beeen living in for a while. We're in the process of trying to get or build him a bigger cage. I have tried spraying him and he doesn't seem to like it so I just spray the walls to keep moisture in there. I'm new at this but I've been reading books on how to care for him. I was wondering if he sees his reflection in the plexiglass and that's why he's ramming it?

That could be. Maybe mine saw himself too and it wasn't the cat he wanted afterall. But you will do fine. The fact that you are reading books on their care and you are asking questions here, tells me that you will take good care of him. Some people buy them then don't have a clue about their care and the iguana gets neglected. Enjoy your new pet.

Are you 100% sure, he's a he? I ask because I have a female iguana and during this time of year she will do anything to get out from where she is...and she's free roaming and has TONS of room. She is going though a period (usually from November-January) where she wants to prepare a place to lay her eggs. When she was younger, she would lay at many as 40 eggs. Although she hasn't laid any eggs in a couple of years (she's 10 years old), she still goes through this ritual every year.

Does he have a place in the cage where he can completely hide where he can not be seen? They need a place where they can go and kind of zone out by themselves, especeally if they are trying to get use to a new environment. They can actually bruise their snout if they keep hitting it on the cage.

not sure either but you should have a pan of water in his cage for im to poop in and also with males if a lady in the house is in her cycle a male will sence it and act up our males do it all the time We read that it is normal behavior also just a suggestion

Does he give you little HEAD-NODS? And does he flare his pouches at you?
Sometimes, iguanas will react to different colors. My iguana would get angry at certain shades of the color red for some reason. He liked to climb up on my red towel and sit.
This may be a male agression issue, or a territory issue, or a cage size issue.
I think you might want to let him out to roam around your house.
