NEWSMEN AS HEADLINERS --- killing of journalists/mediamen

I have recently watched a TV show, a documentary actually, about journalists living dangerous and unsecured lives because of their profession. Yes, they have to make researches and thorough investigation to reveal the facts of various issues, be it politics, religion, crimes, etc. And, along the way, they get to hurt and offend their subjects intentionally or not. No wonder, many of these media people receive threats ranging from simple life threats to kidnapping, putting their lives on the line. Yeah right, it's all part of the job. But, is a media man's life worth the sacrifice of bringing out the truth to the public who deserves to be informed? Philippines top the list of South East Asian coutries where freedom of expression is practiced --- be it on radio, television or prints. Despite many laws passed to protect them, journalists still face the grim side of journalism. Some journalists request for asylum, others for body guards for their security. It's scary. You are just doing your job and you are doing what you know is right. But knowing that you are putting your life in danger will really give you second thoughts. What is your opinion regarding this matter? Do journalists/mediamen in your country face this kind of situation, too?
