Cashiers want personal information - I hate this!

It's not really the cashiers, they are just being instructed to ask for it. But I hate it when a cashier wants to know my zip code or even worse my phone number! Sometimes I make something up, but usually I refuse. I got into a tiff with a cashier at Michaels over it on Saturday. It really burns me up. Particularly with a cash sale, it's just none of their business!!!

i totally agree with this. The other day i bought some cold medicine and it was over the counter medicine and i had to show proof of I.D. to purchase it.

It's not about needing to be ID'd for restricted items. It's the invasion of wanting information about you no matter what you're buying.

I work for a major chain. And the only time I ask for a phone number is when someone writes a check. It gives the company some way of tracking them down if it bounces. I dont know why they would ask you that if its a cash sale. Next time tell them its un listed..I do believe when they ask for your zip code they are researching the best possible place to build a new store ect.

I have done all kinds of things to avoid giving my accurate infomation. I just hate it that I have to play games when I am perfectly within my rights to just decline, particularly with a cash sale. With check or credit card I can understand more the need for such information. Thanks for your response!
