Those of you interested in aiming at perfection in life, respect dignity of labour, should read FOUNTAIN HEAD by Ayn Rand. Those who donot like to read a book which has more than 200 pages, then take a book entitled SHORT STORIES BY O'HENRY.

wow, finally another person who's read ayn rand! The fountainhead is fantastic and Atlas Shrugged is also great. Those two books have made me rethink a lot of my goals in life. I would also recommend East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

It's so funny that I see this popping up all over the place again. I read The Fountainhead years ago and from what I remember I really enjoyed it. I wish I could remember who reccomended it. Ayn Rand came to my attention again recently when reading a graphic novel called "Action Philosophers!" It starts with Plato and ends with Joseph Campbell (Who is the reason I picked up the book in the first place, I am a huge fan of JC) Ayn had her own story in that book and it reminded me that I had in fact read the Fountainhead. Though from learning her story in that graphic novel (yes while fun it is still historically accurate) I am realizing she was a bit of a nutter, and may pick up Atlas Shrugged just to see if I can tell by reading something new of hers.

I think everyone should read "The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran. I think it is beneficial to all races, all religions all peoples.

Everyone should read A BRIEF HISTORY by Donna Tarttt. It's fiction that is literature as well as a great read. Donna Tartt is an American writer from the South but the book is set in a private Eastern college and she tells her tale better than the best of the "preppie in college" writers, most of whom are English.

I would recommend "Women Who Run With The Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes Phd. The author is a Jungian Psychoanalyst and a cantadora or teller of stories from generations back in her family. She takes the archetypes in myth and breaks them down into what it means to be a woman. Every woman should read this to better understand herself and the other women in her life. Every man should read this so that he can better understand the women in his life. There is not a person I can think of that wouldn't benefit from reading this book. Some people my finding the wording a bit flowery, but she has something powerful and insightful to say and it's worth getting past the floweriness (if that kind of writing bothers you that is) to get the message.

Roots by Alex Haley, My Place by Sally Morgan, The True Story of Lilli Stubeck by James Aldridge, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon, Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. These are my favourite books, therefore, I recommend them! =)
