I bought my first computer back in the 1980's. IBM machines were far too expensive for home use back then. Most people had either a Commodore 64, a Tandy CoCo, Microbee or some other now extinct machine. My first computer was a CoCo, I still have it, I used it in 1984 to design and build from scratch, a voice synthesiser. My name were it's first words, it took me a month to teach it to say it properly. Computers back then mostly used a cassette tape recorder for storing data, not floppy discs, and CD's and DVD's wern't invented yet.
My first IBM type PC machine was obtained in the late 1980's.

My first PC was a high school graduation present from my grandparents. They bought it for me so I would have a computer when I left for college. Five and a half years later, I still have this PC! I added an extra harddrive and extra RAM, but other than that everything's intact. It was one of the best presents I ever received.
