I don't know how old your kids are but young children are not attracted to shows with mature content like violence.
You can set the rules as to how much TV and what to watch.
If you do it early enough most kids will see it as normal and not a restriction. My youngest nephew has known how to Turn on the TV and hit the buttons for the Disney Channel since he was 2. It is "his" channel and the only one he cares about. The shows are wonderful and he really does get alot out of them, especially a show called Little Einsteins. Most kids will be severely scarred by verbal or physical abuse directed at them or a parent from within their own home. This is the exposure to violence or disrespect the kids will have to overcome in their lives not TV. Make sure parents treat each other with respect and can be seen as partners in any family and the kid will be fine.

In my house there's 4 TVs, 1 for each person's room, one in my big brother's room, one in my little brother's, one in my parents' room and one in my room.
I agree that a child can be influenced by TV, and that the smaller he is the more prone he is to be influenced and i think overall it just can't be particularly good to be exposed to TV for too many hours as a lot of the content is often made focusing on getting rating or more viewers rather than quality of the content.
There's good, quality tv stations aswell, don't get me wrong, and wether it actually makes people more violent or not i think remains to be proven, i don't know if it can be THAT bad i just know that it can't be particularly good to be overexposed to TV.
As for my child brother you don't have to worry because he watches a kid's station and often asks my mother to put it back on when she changes to check another station :P he also sometimes watches kids movies but other stuff just doesn't interest him.

yes i do have a TV at my house...........
i dont agree tht children get influenced with wrong things after watching TV....... TV also offers great shows which is good for children...... if a person doesnt allow his CHILD to watch TV then it doesnt mean tht his child will be good grown up child, there are lot many things other than TV tht can spoil ur child....... TV is just for entertainment nothing else!!!!!!!!! if a person teaches his child well then his child will never be into wrong things!!!!!!!!!!

I've got a TV in my house too. And i don't believe that will affect any children IF those kids are well kept under surveilance by their parents/tutors. i grew with the tv remote control in my hand, and nothing happened to me. later on, the PC's and the internet appeared, again nothing bad happened to me! it's just science people! MODERNIZATION saves alotta things!

I have one TV. I do believe it can influence children but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There are many wonderful, educational and child friendly programs for them to watch. It is up to the adult to decide what programs are being watched. Children should only be allowed to watch programs that are age appropriate and it's up to the parents to decide what is or isn't appropriate for their child. I personally won't allow my children (ages 11 years to 3 months) to watch anything above a G rating for the younger ones and an occasional family oriented PG-13 for the older ones. The key is to view with them so that they can ask questions about things they don't understand and so you will know the context in which it was presented to them.
Is a child more likely to commit a murder because they have seen it on TV? Probably that will not be the sole factor. A child frequently exposed to that type of viewing without a parent or adult to explain to them that murder is serious and wrong, and who also is exposed to violent behavior in other areas of life may be more likely to commit a murder than a child who has not been raised that way but it is certainly not a guarantee.
The other concern about TV and children is the affect on their health. Children must be given adequate time to be active so that they stay healthy and fit. Time spent watching television must be limited to allow for that.
