Respect to northern Europe trains, Italians trains are not very good and also not very cheap. To find good and clean train you have to go in first class and pay the supplement. In Northern Europe the trains are more clean and comfortable, that is very important to choose to travel by train or not.

In the UK, the train service is usually appalling. Our trains quite often run late, and a lot of them are on their last legs. Most of the trains are in good condition as a couple of companies have just upgraded them. Unfortunately, this has not aided their punctuality.
