What are healthy lunches for your kids to bring to school? Do you put those supposedly "healthy" bars too? Any ideas other than those boring sandwiches and rolls?

I'm not a big fan of convenience foods like those bars. This is some of what turns up in my kids lunches: - cut up fruit - cut up vegetables. This isn't limited to carrot and celery sticks. I include zucchini sticks, grape tomatoes, cucumber sticks, jicama... basically, whatever looks good at the store. - nuts or seeds like pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. - dried fruit - cheese cubes - homemade quick breads like zucchini or banana bread I haven't done it for awhile, but the girls also like homemade sushi in their lunch. I don't make any of the raw fish varieties, since the food is sitting for awhile. But, veggie sushi or ones using cooked egg or fish are fine.

In the cold weather my youngest likes chicken soup in her thermos, or spaggetti-ohs, alphagetti, etc. She also likes fresh fruit so I usually add an apple or banana to her lunch. She is not a big fan of the oatmeal or granola bars so I don't send them or they'd just come right back at the end of the day. I know how tough it can be sometimes to offer a variety of healthy foods for a school lunch.
