Okut is an on-line community that gathers together a group of people with the same intrests or same circle. There are no rules, laws or money involved - discussions there are not triggered (by the prospect of money).
Mylot is an online community that gathers together people of different intrests and views and backgrounds. Unlike Orkut, the response is triggered (in many cases) by money.
You can give your views in any (or all) of the topics listed below:
Which community do you think is more advantageous to you (in not just the financial view)? Why do you think so?
Which do you think is better?
Which community is devoloping more?

I'm beginning to think that Mylot is better than Orkut.
In Mylot, even though you can express your views, you'll just be communicating to people you already know. Moreover, there are no moderators in Orkut. Everything that comes in definitely goes out,..if you catch my drift.
Anyway, like you said, there are no rules, laws or money involved. Things get a wee bit more intresting if there is money involved, even if it's a small bit of it.
However, in a short span of time, Orkut has experienced more growth and devolopment than Mylot. I think even though money is not involved, people feel more comfortable with Orkut. There are no rules, laws and hence people don't feel forced to reply...like said above, 'discussions there are not triggered by the prospect of earning or losing money.'
But answering your first question, i can say that Orkut keeps me in contact with my family and friends. In that way, i really appreciate Orkut's existance.
Mylot however treats me to strangers and new views. For a small though, there may be many angles from which a person may look at it. One person cannot list them out. That's why myLot is important to me. For even the smallest remarks on my part, i get a wide variety of ideas i had never even dreamed of before.
Besides that, i get to see other people's experiences and ideas which is almost impossible in Orkut.
If you know someone, you'll onviously not be comfortable to reveal your troubles and ideas, for being scared of how other's opinions of you may change.
Well, i think the above may be just about a portion of my ideas on Mylot. But definitely, Mylot rules!
