How do you clean your Sonic Care toothbrush?

So, this morning I was in the shower brushing my teeth and thought this might be a good place to ask this question: how do you clean your Sonic Care toothbrush? I know you can purchase new heads and that is not the problem. The problem is the base. When I take the head off, there is black mold or somthing scary in there. I periodically scrub it out, but have a hard time getting it all. I've tried bleaching it too. Can I put it through the dishwasher? How do you clean yours?
