I think Mangalsutra is for South Indians. Hindu's don't wear Mangalsutra. Hindu's value "toe ring" "Sindoor" and bangles for a married women. I have never seen a Mangalsutra in North India.

but nowadays modern girls are not knowing the value of the mangalsutra and also our culture.even married are not wearing mangal sutra and even some going to the extension of not wearing bindi.i hate those people who are not following their culture in the name of modern.you cannot see any other religion people doing like this.

I AM A MALE BUT I STILL HAVE EXPERIENCED THAT WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF MANGALSUTRA.I WOULD ACTUALLY GIVE A HUSBAND MORE IMPORTANCE THAN MANGALSUTRA THATS WHAT MY MOM SAYS WHEN SHE WAS BEEN FORCED TO SELL ALL HER JWELLERY FOR MY FATHERS OPERATION AND THAT SENTENCE "WHAT IS MANAGALSUTRA WITHOUT MY HUSBAND".I WOULD SAY MY MOTHER WOULD BE THE ONLY WOMEN IN THE WORLD WHO IS THE IDEAL WIFE AND MAN WOULD EVER HAVE GOT OR CAN EVEN GET. SO MANGALSUTRA IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THATS THE ONLY THING THAT SAYS I AM MARRIED. BUT IT HAS THE SAME IMPORTANCE THAT A HUSBAND HAS IN A WIFE'S LIFE. SO MANGALSUTRA IS HUSBAND.
