Where's Zod..?

Hey does nyone know where ZOD went..? I only ask because at the end of episode ZOD, when he held the crytal the phantom of ZOD came out but it just flew away. Then at the end of episode i thought that was ZOD flying.

the only place he can go is the Phamtom Zone, he was sent there when he was on Krypton and he can only go there as thats where Zoners go.

I assume that Zod is trapped in the phantom zone. The one thing that I don't like about Smallville are all the loose ends. They start so many subplots and stuff that they never finish developing in a lot of cases. And what happened with college for all of them? I don't know I guess it's just a show, so it can't be perfect, but I would like some more closure.
