There are the usual suspects: ferns, philodendron & spider plants. Also, African violets and violas are hardy indorrs and do well. You could also grow most herbs and cherry tomatos. I like coleus because it gives a nice splash of color. Also, coleus is usually used in flowerboxes at malls and in shopping areas near me and I'm not above pinching a little off and taking it home. It roots easily in a little water. Then it can either be left in the water of planted in soil. I never pay for Coleus.LOL

There are many plants that can be grown indoors without much trouble. Ideally they should be placed on a window sill or somewhere where they are able to receive light and sunshine for at least one or two hours in a day. Some varieties of cactus( Cactii) plants , African violets, goosefoot plant, certain variety of palms and rubber plants all do very well if grown indoors...

It depends on what sort of plants you would like to have growing. Do you want attractive foliage, flowering or edible? Perhaps you would like plants well known for their ability to purify the air? Spider plant and peace lily are two plants that are well known and proven air purifiers. The peace lily has lovely glossy leaves and a glorius white flower shaped like a boats sail.Spider plants leaves tare a lovely green & creamy striped colouring. Two Tasty herbs that are easy to grow indoors and handy to have for picking and popping into your cooking are common mint and parsley. Easy herbs to start with and flavourful too!

Violets are finicky plants, I would suggest starting with plants that are super easy to care for, then moving on to more difficult plants as the others thrive. I have tons of philodendrons. Very cheap to buy at Walmart-- they look great in hanging pots from your ceiling. Just dont let the cats or dogs nibble on them if you have pets! I have some tropical palm plants (A pony tail palm), exotic angel plants (philodendrons), 3 kinds of ivy, Christmas Cactus, Jade plants, a mosquito plant, a spider plant, and a goldfish plant in my upstairs.

I would like to recommend Beaucarnea to anyone who has problems growing plants indoors. They will endure the most extreme neglect. I planted 10 seeds. Got 8 plants & it took me 3 years to kill them. I tried to kill them. Just to see how tough they really were. To let you know... you will have to water them more than 5 or 6 times if you want them to live beyond 3 years.
Draceana, Ficus, Musa also make great indoor plants. You can find seeds to them at this website http://www.coolseeds.com

A lot of people like african violets. You can do ferns, cacti, or, if you're patient, bonsai. It helps if you have windows that get good light.
