Aaarrrgghh! Referrals!

Maybe I have a knack at attracting the slackers of the world, but I want to smack each and every one of my referrals. Not just MyLot referrals, but everyone that has ever signed up under me. When a person contacts me and shows me how I can earn free money I take that opportunity. But my referrals don't seem to understand they need to put a bit of effort into it. Do they expect me to actually do their work for them? Feel free to join me and vent about your referral woes. Or if you are the rare sort that has active referrals tell us about it and give us hope.

Heh....! You pretty much nailed why I don't much both with pursuing referral/MLM-style programs anymore. Most people who are looking to "make money from home" operate under the (false) assumption that a "program" or "system" makes the money, when the bottom-line truth is that PEOPLE make the money. That means YOU, and YOU, and YOU! Back in the "stone age" I wrote on a site called epinions (they are still around) and you could actually make a LOT of money during the initial stages (they were paying 10 cents per PAGE VIEW on articles!), and even then of the 50-odd referrals I had, only ONE ever wrote more than a couple of pieces. However, more than a few would PM me and ask "when do I start getting paid?" Bottom line, folks: "PROGRAMS" don't work, "PEOPLE" do. Whereas it's a nice idea, there's no "money for nothing" out there.

*thump head on wall* It's quite amusing how people assume that since something is online or not a "9 to 5" it is not work. I just hope they have a better attitude with their regular job.

Well I've got two referrals. The first one just signed up and never got active, while the second got active for just two days then suddenly disappeared. Just made 6 responses, which gave me 3 cents - thank you - then afterwards also disappeared. Told me that they got a hard time on thinking what responses/posts to make, and I think maybe they got bored or something like that. But I can't blame them, they have their own views/inputs on this site and I am happy that I am still here. Alive and still kicking!;) Hey! Does mylot give loyalty awards here?!;)

That's a great idea! Maybe mylot could give us a few dollars after we reach a certain number of posts. Or they could reward us after we have been active members for a certain period of time.

I feel the same way. Also, places like craigslist don't help. I tried posting up there and they flagged and deleted it even though this was not an MLM. That irritated me. Also, I've done a lot of my own postings and I can't see why it would kill referrals to do their own part as well. I've even tried to encourage them to start discussions but there's a lot of lazy people out there.

I tried Craigslist too. Did you post under the jobs category? I posted under financial services. Out of 30 posts I only had 1 deleted. But I only got 3 people to sign up. If you post to other forums you might want to add your referral link to your signature.

I too have the same problem. I have only been on here 3 days now, but I have 8 referrals. Only one of my referrals is active, I have made 9 cents from him on his first day. I need to find 100 other people like him I guess. How does everyone else here go about getting referrals?

I haven't spent too much time actively referring people. I have just signed up people I know. I found a post by Oldbuddy and he has some great advice on how to get referrals. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/737651.aspx

I managed to get one person to sing up but they are not active at all. So, I have counted them out. I am not sure why people sign up if they dont intend to do anything at all here.

Exactly, what a waste of time it is to sign up for anything and not follow through with it. I wish sites would let you remove referrals. I hate looking at my referral page and not seeing anything.

ya.. i agree.. maybe can try to give them some incentives, eg if their earning is more than us$1000 this month, you can transfer a small amount of money, say us $100 to them. By the way you still earn 25% from the referral. so 25% of $1k is $250. you give $100 as incentive and you still earn $150!!!

The incentive idea is a good one. But I would only do it if a person consistently earned money for a certain period of time. What I offer to my referrals now is basically all of my knowledge on the sites we belong to. I have a website that I tell them to check out. And I let them know they can contact me with questions.

I think the best way is to leave them a aside first. continue to find new referrals and concentrate on those who are willing to post and those who wants to earn money as well..
