The star is only given to users who reach 100, and it is indicative of your participation within Mylot. Posting quality discussions, giving and being awarded best responses, rating others comments, and generally helpful and useful conduct will earn you points.

The star is for your rating. You get a star after your 100th post. And, depending on the ratings your posts get (the "+" or "-" buttons to the right of posts are how posts get rated) your star will have a number and different color.

The color is just different for every number. Like 3 is brown, and 6 is pink, they just each have a different color. If you hold your mouse over a star (doesn't work with firefox) it'll show you the exact rating behind the star.

I don't know which color is associated to which rating but the star rating follows this scheme (I believe):
1-24 = 1 star
25-34 = 2 star
35-44 = 3 stars
45-54 = 4 stars
55-64 = 5 stars
65-74 = 6 stars
75-84 = 7 stars
85-89 = 8 stars
90-94 = 9 stars
95-100 = 10 stars
