evolution, fact, theory or belief?

the official word is theory. fact: proven, tested, analyzed, experimented etc etc. theory: an idea based on facts that has been proven to a degree belief: an idea based on no/not enough facts In my opinion, it is a fact. the only reason why its not officially a fact is because of political reasons. if it was a fact, most religions would be proven wrong and there would be no reason to believe in any (most) religions. there is enough evidence to conclude that it is a fact. From fossil fuels, genes, links, traits, ecosystems, kingdom relations, families and mutations, they all point to evolution. Which one do you think it is and what do you think about my opinion?

I think it's fact and I see no reason why it would prove all religions as wrong. I always thought that the creations stories fit quite well with evolution.. Take my favorite creation story for example: The Goddess danced among the stars and as she did life began to appear, and she began to sing and the waters began to fall and gather on the earth. Her breath became the wind . . and then she gave birth to us, her children. Why can't deity BE a part of the universe..why can't she or he or it or whatever have created evolution thus creating the earth and US and the plants and the animals. Is there anything at all that says that deity and his or her powers AREN'T natural? Why can't religion and science be mixed? Who the heck SAID it had to be kept seperate? Nothing in the christian Bible said exactly how it created us. There was no specific forula given so why the hell does everyone ASSUME that it wasn't a natural thing? Religion and science I always believed, were in some way related. Physics tells us what we believe affects the world around us -- just what several religions have said for years. I don't think they're kept in such neat litte boxes like people have such a tendency to believe so devoutly.

Evolution is a proven fact at this point. The thing I can not figure out is why people become so upset about this. I can even give some creadience to people who believe in creation if they are willing to go back to the Big Bang. I personally do not believe in creation but I have so explanation for the Big Bang so if you want to attribute it to a creator I have no issue with you.

as far as i know it's still called the theory of evolution and although many evidences have been found there are still some that's missing. this issue remains to be unsolved until now, that's why. i remembered having a dilemma as an elementary school student who both studied evolution in science class and creation in religion class. i asked myself the question of which is true when i was young. when you think about it, religion and science contradict in many ways not only about the topic of evolution.

If evolution is a fact, why did it stop? I think Darwin got confused with the difference between evolution and mutation. In evolution you have a complete progressive change of one living creature into another, in mutation you have a creature changing physically to adapt to its enviromen, it does not change into a completely different creature. Look at flowers, there are a lot of diffrent mutitants of the rose, but the rose does not change into a day lilly. Likewise there are a lot of different types of apes, but they do not change into humans. If they would you would see the various stages of the developement in the jungles and about the world. Evolution is a continious change, it does not stop. I believe that the human race has mutated from the caveman to what we are today, but we did not come from apes. God created Man and gave him the highest status in the anamal kingdom. He did not create him at his highest state of being, but created him with the ability to continually elavate his state of being. That is why a farmer can have children who grow up to be doctors, scientist etc. I would rather die beleiveing there is a God, and there not be one, than dying not believing in God and finding out there is one.????

THAT'S the point, evolution NEVER stopped. Have you checked out genetic developement? We used to be TINY, five feet tall was being very tall back when cars didn't exist. And not six feet's the one that's tall. Who said we ever stopped? Eventually we could change into another being entirely. Evolution's is slow, not INSTANT.

Evolution has not stopped. It is a slow process but it is an ongoing one. Darwen did not get confused. Mutation is a part of evolution, in fact it is the heart of it. Your statement that mutation of a creature changing physically to adapt to it"s environment is in complete agreement with Darwin. What you don't understand is that Darwin never said that a rose would change into a day lilly, he said that those mutations that did help a creature better adapt to it's environment would remain and perpetuate themselves while those that did not would fail. He never said that an Ape would evolve into a Human. We now know that we share a common ancester with the Apes but we are different branches of the evolutionary tree. When you state that evolution is a continuous change and does not stop you finally show your wisdom and state your agreement with evolution so we, in fact, have no disagreement. With a little more study you will fully understand. If you study DNA and the human genome you will find the proof that decent is a fact. We share genes with bananas and bacteria. This should awake wonder in you that share so much with the rest of life on this planet. Whether there is or is not a god is not an issue here.

I always rather liked that point, my Mom always liked to point out we share genes with trees and talked about the chemistry that went on with water the most though. anyway, very good point Chiang Mai
