Since when did it become so socially acceptable to use those terms as insults? Everywhere I turn I hear young people saying "That is so gay" or "you are so retarded." Am I the only one who is upset by this? I don't think that those kinds of words should be used as insults. I really don't.
My youngest sister is mentally retarded, and it bothers me that people use that word as a derogatory term. To call someone that is stupid "retarded" is ingnorant in my book. The word "retarded" to me is just as bad as the "n" word to most black people. I am very sensitve to that term and don't like it to be used around me.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

YAY!!! I am so glad I have finally found someone who agrees with me! These terms used as slang really irritate me as well! Do people not realize what they are saying when they throw them out like that? I absolutely agree they are as bad as the "n" word. I don't have anything to add to your discussion as I feel you worded if perfectly, I'm just happy to have found someone who feels the same way I do about these words.

Same here. There are people who really don't think before they speak up. New terms being added in our every day conversation with people and people just love to describe very exaggerated over simple description. Who made these? Well, I don't like it either, it makes the person very low.
