Today I was paying bills and every phone call start Please Press One For English......I got so tired of hearing that I decided to complain to the person on the other end of the phone......When I asked Why if I'm living in the United States Of America do I have to push one for English and didn't know what to say when I ask that question......One person said well there is people who don't speak english so we have to have them press two for spanish...... Well all I have to say is if they can't speak english they shouldn't be here........Do you notice they never say push three for Chineese or four for Japanese........It's always 2 for Spanish and I for one am sick of it....

Your observation is keen and it is justified. A law must be passed in your country requiring everyone who gets into the country to have a working knowledge of the English language. It is your prerogative considering that they are the ones who sought entry into the US and it's not the other way around. Go get in contact with a politician on this issue. Ask him to do something about the situation. Spanish speaking people should not be given special treatment. They should be treated at equal footing with the rest of the peoples of the world.

I have written my congress men and women....About this problem but I don't know what they plan to do about it cause they still haven't told the people coming here they have to learn english.......I guess they take the notes and make paper airplanes out of them...And here the Spanish speaking people get special treatment....

That is weird, but I can't say I've experienced that because I live in the UK. I've never had to choose anything like that here, thank God, can you imagine how long it would take if they introduced that for all the mixture of people who live here? It would be political correctness gone absolutely stupid and over the top. I hate automated phone services anyway and I do my banking online unless I have to pay in a cheque. I do agree with the person who said that you should get through straight away if you speak English but how would you get through without pressing a button? Otherwise the people who do speak English would have to listen to all the other language options before being put through... Or something like that, do you get what I'm trying to say? LOL I've confused myself now!

This is just for people who don't want to learn the english language...That's why the rest of us are having to push the numbers....It seems like everything here is to cater to everyone but the american people.....Were just getting tired of it....

You really hit a good point...I have ran into so many people who are here that don't speak English at all but have been here for years...It should be be no problem getting thru on a call to get help. Why just favoring one language?? Most of the people I know from other countries have learned English. Why can't the Spanish?? I know when we were back in Minnesota 3 years ago I had to make a call and it was 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, 3 for Chinese and so on...The list went on and on....Why can't they learn our language??

The reason they don't learn it is because they don't have to and it's time they started....

You don't get the point......why should anyone living in their country have to be discriminated against by having to push a number.......If someone goes to another country they should learn the language of the country they are going to.

I was just thinking that as I was listening and pushing the correct buttons for my local pharmacy. Why can't it say something like..."If you already speak English, please proceed with your call. If you speak Spanish, press....." It is very aggravating sometimes.

It makes sense, you cant discriminate against people because they speak a different language, they live there too and not everyone can speak english

I know we can't discriminate but what I was saying is why do WE have to be discriminated against in our own country by having to push number for English....
