I've just got to tell you all this ... IT'S HERE !!

(Okay, this is a bit long, but please do try and read all of it.. thank you!) ...
As some may know .. but most won't which is why I am going to repeat it .. I have had computer problems for some time on my 6 years old system .. it isn't exactly going wrong .. rather I have just come to the end of the road for updates on my Windows ME so I can't update my browser which is causing a few problems with some of the web sites I visit ..
And as some may know .. but again most won't (and I'm sorry to keep repeating things) I am disabled and on a VERY low income .. so I have been looking for an 'update' or 'quick fix' .. but couldn't find anything at all with in my modest budget ..
So I decided I would have to move up to XP .. only buying XP home version was around £150'ish (roughly $300) .. so I thought for a few seconds and decided not to 'waste' so much money putting XP into an already very old computer ... so I then started looking at new computers .. sheesh they are dear .. much dearer than I expected ... :o(
Yesterday I started doing a search for just a very basic computer .. good speed and RAM but without any of the fancy software packages that some of the higher priced computers all seem to come with these days .. but which are often packages or games we don't even need or will ever use ..
At 5.30pm yesterday evening (Thursday) I came across EXACTLY what I was looking for .. a good, plain, basic computer .. more than adequate for my needs .. almost 3 times as fast as I already have .. with FOUR times the RAM .. 4 times the hard drive and everything else is practically top spec ...
Now wait for it .. because ... I got very excited .. !!!
Not only was it a super compact unit .. but it will slip under my monitor as it's one of those 'lying down' type units (and with all the important bits very easy to get at in front of the unit) and being disabled this will really help me .. at present I practically have to demolish my desk unit to get at the back of my computer as I can't bend very easily ...
So .. I can install the new computer without having to completely remove the old one .. so with a bit of jiggery pokery I can still use the old one while learning my new XP skills ... I am absolutely over the moon .. it's totally and absolutely BRILLIANT ..
And I've left the very best news until last so I hope you are all still reading ... it's cost me just £85 (or roughly $170) more than buying a home version of XP .. that's amazing .. a whole NEW computer for just a little bit more than having to buy a new Windows package ...
AND ... AND ... !!
And .. I ordered it at 5.45pm last night .. (Thursday) .. and utterly unbelievably it was delivered THIS MORNING (Friday) at 8.15am ...
Totally gobsmacked I am ... now I have the whole weekend to try and sort out those 'small' matters like loading my ISP and other important 'stuff' ..
WHOOOOPPPPEEEE !!!!
(Apologies for many capitals but they are all for emphasis of my joy!!)...

Hey Toots, I'm real pleased for you! You'll be a whizz on the computer, you'll be so fast we won't be able to catch up with ya! At 8.15 you received your package, at 8.20 you were setting it up! Unlike me I'd be back in bed with it still in its box by 10.30 lol! Hope everything goes well in setting it all up, I hate that sort of thing and have no patience :0*(

I am totally with you I WAITED FOR YEARS TO GET A COMPUTER BECAUSE THEY WERE WAY beyond MY BUDGET. I was in talking to my favorite computer guy and asked him if they ever got in inexpensive units and he said sort of, some times we have to break up a package because some one needs part of that package NOW so I will keep an eye out for you. I went back 2 weeks later and asked if any thing had come up, How much are you able to pay, around $500. I said but that is for every thing, That day I left with a tower, keyboard, mouse, for $469.00 and Out telephone company had a deal going on if you ordered high speed INTERNET you got a beautiful 19 inch monitor, all this and I had no payments no interest for 6 months. AS you can see I have the computer I wanted so good things come to those who wait , and I live it. Thank you

Wonderful that you have a new toy to play with. We update our pc's every 4 years. Hubby has been ready to take a sledgehammer to his. It won't be long before he is searching for a replacement. I advise him to get a job first!

GREAT job and Congrats on the new PC. You will LOVE it. I was shy to use XP too, because I always used windows me at home and windows 2000 at work. To my surprise it really was not that hard. Things are just buried deeper into the files. I know you will absolutely LOVE the extra speed. The price is awesome and you must be commended on finding the best deal!

I was going to get an upgrade but my techie neighbour told me it would be cheaper to buy a new hard drive. Like you said, $300. However, DH came home from work the other day and said that work was offering us an upgrade to Windows 2003 for $25.00. Though I would prefer XP, anything is better than what I have been dealing with. My anti-virus programs won't completely install because my program is too old (Windows '98).
Congrats to you!

THAT IS WONDERFUL!!!! In fact when you get around to it, will you please message me where you found this at? We are going to have to break down and buy XP as well, but if we can just get a new computer on top of that for less, we want in on it too!!! :-)

Yay! I'm so happy for you :)
That's a terrific deal that you got. I was thrilled when I managed to find a new system for $400 (US) 2 weeks ago, but your deal is even better!
Now you can do so much more with your computer without it constantly having fits (our old computer also ran ME and it was getting to be nightmare).

Damn! Congratulations on that amazing find.
What brand of computer is it--if I may ask? Hopefully it's the real deal, and not a shoddy ripoff.

It's a Fujitsu made in Germany by Siemens they may not be the 'prettiest' looking computers but all the spec was good and high end of the market .. and the model is an award winner so I am very happy ..
Also found I can upgrade to Vista for the price of the postage of disks .. so I am planning on partitioning the drive and putting Vista on one half and keeping XP on the other ... :o)

Wow...... i can imagine your excitement. I felt that as well when I finally got my laptop. I had been dreaming about one ever since I can remember and it was like a dream come true. I got it at a fantatic price as well cause my Bro-in-law got it for me from canada. In india I would have to pay 3 times the cost for a lesser config. Have fun with the new comp.

It's not one of those whizz bang, gadgets everywhere .. with all the bells, singing and dancing computer or anything .. it's just a very good quality plain and simple base unit .. with a basic software package (but actually has more on it than my present computer has) .. but at under £300 (inc delivery) .. it seemed the perfect replacement computer .. even if I had just bought XP that's well over £150 to get all the Rights and stuff you need to be legal these days + delivery etc etc ...
(Yes, I know you can download XP off the internet but I have heard so many horror stories about all the problems, corrupt data and embedded viruses that I simply wouldn't risk it .. and I want the disks or what do you do when you need to reinstall whatever .. ??)

We are all innocent so innocent sometimes that we cannot hide our joy and share it with those who would understand appreciate us well. I am glad too hearing your background and the necessity. It proves one pont that no one need to be hasty in buying anything and an appropriate purchse take time and research. I am glad that now you have this little new cute friend and we may have to reply to more of your posts and get more replies. It is better that you didn't go for XP since Vista has already come and we poor people cannot afford to keep pace with the software and hard ware updates. But I feel this problem if you had raised here you would have got many replies since i find lot many computer saavy, wizard and that soort of stuff here. Any way i share your thrill and happiness.

Sounds like you'll enjoy your new PC, I hope you have long fun with it because that's what PC's doesn't have this time where the hardware evolution has become that fast. Were already at the part where you nearly need to buy every half year a new Graphicscard just to be able to play the games that came out with the card. Atleast that's like it feels for me. I got my Notebook now over two years and the only thing that I upgraded is the HDD and the Ram and I'm happy with it because I use it most for programming.
