Music: helps in the mental development of babies?

this was the advise my daughter's pediatrician and it worked for my daughter. she is amazingly a smart kid. is this scientifically proven?

I agree that music helps with baby's moods. I don't know if it helps to get childeren smarter. When my childeren were baby's and they were upset. I always turned on relaxing music. It realy hepled them to calm down. So for me that's proove enough.
