I tried listening to some podcast online called "A Spoonfull of russian" but it's just some conversation.. not quite professional :)
I bought some books with grammar and exercises.. what I try to do is practicing online using the chats mainly.. there are a lot of russians willing to help on icq :)

I was trying to learn russian while my sister in law and nephew lived local. I learned a few words, but nothing really useful. I'd love to learn russian, though.

Hey! I think being friends with russian person will help you a lot. We have a very diverse community here in San francisco. I'm russian too, but we have some americans who hang out with us. Without even wanting - they beginn to understand our conversations sometimes. It is very fun to share the experience with other people from other cultures. I'm trying to get involved it Japanese myself ;)))
Good Luck!!

I am interested in learning russian and japanese, because my friend open a restaurant in the border with Russia, then she wants me to manage it for her, but I can't speak Russian, I can speank English. My sister can speak Russsian, but she doesn't know how to manage a restaurant and now she has a stable job as a translator, and she likes her job very much. Sometimes it is not good to work for a friend or relative.
I am interested in japanese, too. I like japanese cartoon very much.
