Ok, I have been using a friends laptop because my keyboard broke on my desktop computer. It is REALLY hard to get used to!!! I keep hitting buttons that I didn't mean to...the pages keep going up and down, the keys are so different from a regular keyboard, so I'm hitting the backspace button more than ever. It's driving me crazy. I'm trying to get used to it. I was going to get me one, but now I'm not so sure....
Which do you prefer? The old big desktop? Or the nice little laptop?
Have a WONDERFUL day!!! :-)

I prefer a desktop. The only advantage I see to the laptop, is being able to take it with you, and not taking up as much room.

I agree. A desktop is easier to use in lot of way. The only advantage of a laptop is it is easy to transport. I think that might be the main purpose of laptop. They are different to use that desktop so I like desktop better.

Both are having their own advantages. As per this discussion, I prefer Laptop where I can use it for presentations.
The advantages of Laptop are:
1. You can prevent your system from multi-users so that your system and desktop everything will be in your way.
2. When we are chatting, we can save that in only one computer. In that case if we use only one system (obviously Laptop) we can check previous chattings whenever we required irrespective of place where you chat.
let me know your opinion on this!

i agree too.
Desktop, you can upgrade it, create a multimedia center with, change the case, able to have a pc already on after several years simply changing some parts. Not simple with a laptop even if you are able to open try to change some part!!! very hard and dangerous for your laptop's life.
The only advantage, to carry it with you.
desktop win laptop naaaaaaaa

Personally I prefer the desktop. I always feel that the keys on the laptops are too close to the screen. I just don't like the way it situated. I really dislike the built in mouse on laptops, I find them so uncomfortable, I would have to plug in an outside mouse.

Glad to see your back Stephanie. Hope all went well. I had to use a laptop while we were renting a house and it almost drove me mad. I had to get my husband to connect a mouse to it, as I couldn't manage to run my finger over the little thingymajig and I kept making mistakes. I also like to use the old fahioned floppy disks and the laptop didn't have a slot for these. No, I much prefer my desktop. It is much easier to use.

Thank you. I just moved to Louisanna from Indiana...it's SOOO much warmer here. And my keyboard on my regular computer broke...again. So, that's why I haven't been on.
Anyways...it stinks is that I have to use this darn laptop. I keep reaching over to the right to grab the mouse and it's just not there. lol. I was going to go buy me one...I thought they were so neat, but now,I just want my puter back, lol. I will be going to buy me a new keyboard today!

I prefer A desktop rather than a laptop because a laptop is brittle and must be given a good care. But a Desk top is like a hard old chap and it withstand a little rough use. It's easy in a desktop to replace parts than a laptop.
The only favourable character in a laptop is it's portability.
New Durable laptops are available for rough uses. But they are priced mountain high.

I much prefer my laptop but it does have pros and cons.
Pros:
-I have a bad back so I can get into whatever position makes me more comfy.
-I can take it with my to my kids' functions and get some work done.
-I'm more creative for some reason on my laptop.
Cons:
- If you take your laptop everywhere you go, chances are it won't last as long because of occasional bangs and whatnot.
-When it comes time to fix a laptop, it's not easy to replace the motherboard so it's almost easier and cost effective to buy a new one.
- They are expensive.

I used to think that I wanted a laptop but then my husband bought one and right after that my desktop was having problems. I started using his laptop until my computer was fixed and decided then that I did not want a laptop of my own. The keys are very different and I never did get used to them. My husband loves his laptop but I am more of a desktop kind of person.

Any day, a desktop would serv it`s purpose!
A laptop is just a mobile workstation. All you have to do is to carry it along. I am usually used to typing with normal Desktop keyboard. I`ve also tried a hand at laptop keyboard. They work quite good. Though i do not know the actual method of typing "asdfgf ;lkjhj"... I`m really fast at normal typing and i feel it`s quite comfortable for me. Hence i feel that it would be a good option to use Desktop keyboard for lengthy conversations. Perhaps it really adds to style and improves your pride ;-)

I used to have a desktop but after having it for quite sometime it finally broke down. I didn't send it to a repair shop anymore because I think it's gonna break down soon anyway. It's not that old and I planning to send it to my siblings in the Philippines. I lived in apartment so I think it kinda too so much space. Before my boyfriend left, he also gave me his laptop because internet is our main communication. Yehey!
I love laptop! I think it is more fun, handy, and I am getting used of it. I liked the fact that I could take it anywhere like couch, school, cafe, etc.

I definetly prefer a desktop. I have both and use my desktop 100 times more regularly than I do the laptop. I don't have any issues with navigating or typing on it. I think the main thing that bugs me with a laptop is the fact that it is almost always on top of me. That to feel comfortable typing the screen is virtually right in your face. I just like the laptop for the portability.

Desktop computer. Desktops are much more reliable than laptops. easy to upgrade/repair. Parts are not hard to find. easy connection to the internet.

i prefer desktop, much easier to repair than those tiny laptops incase of problem, cheap parts unlike the parts of the laptop. prices are so high! and lifespan is much longer that laptops, although portability might be a big issue, a still prefer for the big ones!

Personally, I am a laptop person. I can stick it in my bag and off I go. And when I am home out of the bag and on the docking station and I am heavenly computing. Full size wireless keyboard, 25" Flat Panel screen, wireless mouse, camera for video conferencing, and last but not the least I can watch DVD's to my hearts content anywhere.

Well, since I do graphic design I prefer a desktop. Laptops are becoming nicer but it is still very difficult to do many things on a laptop.
Also the speed differnce is important. Most laptops are much slower than a desktop going for the same price. I have an old one that I bought for $200 bucks but not a new fancy one. Even some of the nicest ones I have seen for over a grand are only 1.7ghz. Min is only 750mHZ but I only use it for emailing or basic coding and such running my online business.

I used to adore my desktop pc, but it was THE dinosaur, older than time itself and incapable of much neato stuff. We have a laptop now, which is lightning speed....and we can watch movies in bed too,so I'll have to vote laptop.

I guess it really depend upon the amount of work ur used to...if u really are complete desktop user then i personally feel that desktop would be a good choice for you....I guess laptop should be used only by the professionals since its more delicate and needs much more caution for handling than other desktops...so for using at home i would completely suggest a big old desktop..

well!..if given a choice like this, i would definitely prefer laptop, though it does take some time if you are used to using those keyboards and mouse, but its not that big deal. once you start using a laptop, its just a matter of some time and you'll be as much comfortable with the laptop, because nowadays...when you need to be well connected specially in this scenario, a laptop is definitely a better option, and that too when you can have a wireless net connection with it. it is handy and you can take it anywhere and everywhere you want

Used to be you'd have several expansion boards in your pc so you can use peripherals or watch dvds or whatever. Nowadays, with modems and sound boards built into the motherboard, I can see using a laptop as my regular pc.
Rather than use the keyboard on the laptop, use a usb keyboard. It'll be easier to use.

Desktops are preferable over laptops because they r fixed and easy to handle and not as delicate as laptops .Cost is also less for desktops than laptop for same capabilities .if u r home user better to prefer desktop .laptop will not be suitable for games and high end applications and the screen size is small compared to desktop.so desktop is preferable for a home user.
